BARKSDALE ELEMENTARY

Message From Dr. Minyard
Hello Barksdale Community!
And there you have it... Another school year has come to an end. I came into Barksdale a year ago with excitement for the new journey that lay ahead for me. I had no idea what an impact the staff and community would have on me over the course of the school year. I was accepted into the Barksdale family with open arms and immediately knew I had landed at someplace special.
What transpired over the next ten months was nothing short of extraordinary. With high academic standards, a positive learning culture, and traditions of excellence in place, I found myself surrounded by people that shared the same vision for what school could be. As a staff, we took a commitment to inspire the next generation and built our programs upon some core beliefs about teaching and learning.
- That all students can learn and are at the heart of our decisions.
- That relationships are foundational to a successful educational experience.
- That learning should be hands-on, engaging, relevant and FUN.
- That learning is cultivated best when aligned to the needs, interests, and passion of our students.
- And that it would be our goal to build resilient and resourceful lifelong learners.
Reflecting upon this year, I can say with confidence, Mission: Accomplished. The staff of Barksdale are in a league of their own, and I feel so fortunate to be able to lead this learning community.
Secondly, this community has left a lasting impression on me. Meeting with the PTA at the start of the school year, we quickly realized that we shared a common vision as well. That this school year would be one that would leave a lasting memory with these kiddos. Each special event was fantastic with community involvement and volunteer participation. But mostly, it was the smiles on the students faces that said it all... Mission: Accomplished!
Finally, the heart and soul of this school and the reason why we get up each day... the students of Barksdale! They came to school each day with a desire to learn and grow, and that is just what they did. The amount of hugs, high-fives, and smiles they gave me are countless in number and have had a profound impact on me this year. You gave it your all, and now with only one day to go, you can hold your head high and shout to the sky... Mission: Accomplished!
It has been an honor serving the students, staff, and community this year, and I can't wait to see what is in store next year.
Enjoy your summer!
What a YEAR it has been...
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Minyard
HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!!
IMPORTANT - Save the Dates!!!
Last Day of School / Early Release

Yearbook Update
Barksdale families,
We regret to inform everyone that our yearbooks will not be delivered before school lets out tomorrow. We have been doing everything in our power to have them delivered but the likelihood of tomorrow is slim.
As a result, we have created and printed a signature page that corresponds to the yearbook layout. Each child will receive and all will enjoy getting autographs before they leave for summer!
As soon as we have a delivery date, we will communicate a yearbook pickup plan. If you have not ordered a yearbook and would still like to order, there are a handful of copies left. Log into the Barksdale PTA website and purchase.
Apologies for this disappointing news but we promise they are coming and the students will be excited when received!
Thank you,
Tammy Shamburger
PTA President
