We are proud of the 7th grade football team for showing their Charger P.R.I.D.E. during a recent football game against Westfield Middle School! Our team led by coaches Gary Rhoads and Jon Baker showed their Respect for others by rallying together to support the Westfield team. Our boys wore pink unicorn stickers on their helmets, as a show of support for Westfield player Lincoln Hoffman's 5 year old sister Londyn, who is battling cancer. Dilemma: A little girl was diagnosed with Leukemia and has lost her hair due to chemotherapy. She doesn't want to go to school now that she has no hair. However, when the mom went to try to get her a wig the cheapest wig she could find was $700 and they can't afford that. What could students at FJH do to help Make a Difference in the lives of families just like the little girl from the video?!

Students then worked through the performance task to try to determine a solution to the problem. Eventually, students decided to try to do a hair drive, similar to the food drive going on at HSE schools this week. Several students raised their hands saying that they would be willing to donate hair in May for the hair drive. Students learned quickly about supply and demand and one reason that wigs might cost so much. As we worked through the specifics of the problem, it became clear that not everyone who was willing to donate hair, would actually be able to donate the needed 10 inches of hair.

Students were able to put their Unit2 skills to use and see that Algebra is relevant and useful for tasks that they would have never realized.

The deadline to register for this year's trip to DC is September 15th - next Wednesday! Don't get left behind as your friends experience this once-in-a-lifetime trip to our nation's capital. Over 70 8th grade students have signed up, but there is room for more. Additional registration packets are in the front office or see Mr. Heiniger if you have questions.

Fishers Junior High adheres to the HSE school district dress code policy. Please review below:

The appearance and dress of any student is the primary responsibility of both the student and the parent. Students are expected to maintain an appearance that is appropriate for school and conducive to the educational atmosphere. Whenever a school official considers a student’s appearance to be inappropriate for the educational environment, a conference will be held and the student will be asked to make a modification.
The following are examples of clothing or items that are considered to be inappropriate:

• Clothing and/or any adornment displaying messages or images not appropriate for school. Examples would be messages containing profanity; sexual innuendo; references to drugs, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or violence; or messages that incite hate towards other students or student groups.
• Clothing that is designed to reveal bare midriffs, buttocks, torso, undergarments, or the lack of undergarments.
• Hats or unapproved masks; hooded clothing must be worn with the hood down. Culturally and religious-based head coverings are permitted.
• Heavy and/or long coats.
• Strapless tops; tank-tops must fit tightly under arms.
• Any item that might cause a concern for student safety.
• Unsafe (or lack of) footwear.
• Unapproved face painting, eyewear, costume apparel, spray painted hair, etc.
• Headphones/earbuds in the hallways throughout the day.
• Blankets or pillows.
• Signs, flags, or non-educational items that the school can reasonably forecast will substantially or materially disrupt the school environment.

Students who violate the dress code may face disciplinary action.

FJH Shirts will be selling spirit wear at lunch on Wednesday September 15th & 22nd. T-shirts $10, Hoodies $20-25. Order forms for any sizes not available on those days.

Personal checks should be made payable to FJH and can be mailed or sent with your student to school. Be sure to specify on your check /envelope that the payment is for book rental. Include student’s name, I.D. #, and grade in the memo line of check. Payment needs to be directed to the Bookstore/Treasurer.

Note: If you choose to pay by credit card you MUST utilize eFunds.

On-line payments with Mastercard, Visa, or Discover Payment may be made online via the Efunds tab on the FJH website. Be sure to select Student Course Fees.

Please consider donating your time by signing up for a shift (or two!) in concessions. The indoor or outdoor concessions are open for home football and volleyball games throughout the fall season as a way to provide a welcoming environment and snacks for our community. It also serves as the PTO's main source of income for supporting the teachers, staff, and students during the school year. No experience necessary!
