Crab Crew News April 2024
Principal's Message
I hope each of you had an enjoyable Spring Break and want to begin April by thanking all our students and their families for the hard work our community has been doing over the first three quarters of the school year to help all students find success at Northeast Middle School.
This week is the last week of the third Marking Period and students must complete all work by Friday, April 5th. I ask that you review your students grades and support them taking advantage of opportunities to get support from their teachers.
I look forward to our continued collaboration and an amazing 4th marking period.

TRANSPORTATION SAFETY CONCERNS
BUS STOPS -
Parents/Guardians are responsible for the supervision and safety of students from home until they board the school vehicle and from the school vehicle stop to home. It is important that students follow the School Vehicle Behavior Expectations & Safety Requirements for All Students listed on Page 23 in The Student Handbook which includes to wait in a quiet and orderly manner, respect private property and wait in a safe place, clear of traffic, and away from where the school vehicle stops.
PARKING LOTS -
All daily car rider student pick up/drop off should be done using the main school entrance car rider loop. The main entrance visitor parking spots should be used for late arrival/early dismissal.
The Staff Parking Lot (adjacent to the Cafeteria) is only to be used by staff with a Parking Permit issued for the 2023-2024 School Year. This should not be used for student pickup/drop off.
Teacher/Staff/Bus Parking Lot (lower parking lot) is only to be used by Teachers/Staff and Bus Pickup/Drop Off. This should not be used for student pickup/drop off.
Local Business Parking Lots - We have received numerous complaints by several business owners close to the school that their parking lots are being used for student pickup/drop off. This has created an unsafe situation because students are darting in and out of the cars in the lot and there are numerous cars pulling in and out of the lot at the same time. Please only use the Main Entrance loop and visitor parking spaces for student pick up/drop off.
CHROMEBOOKS
Please remind students to make sure their Chromebooks are charged each night, so that they are fully charged when they return to school the next day.
Chromebook Distribution Process in 2024-2025
Northeast Middle School wanted to be sure that all families reviewed the 2/13 news release from AACPS titled School system alters student Chromebook distribution process in 2024-2025 school year. To summarize, Chromebooks will be housed at schools next year and not automatically provided to every student to take home. However, students who need to have a device at home will be able to secure one free of charge through a loaner program in which you can borrow a Chromebook for a semester or the whole school year. Please see the news release for additional information.
During the remainder of the current school year, there will be several steps that take place at schools around the county. The first is that AACPS must update its Chromebook inventory district wide.
The next step in the process will involve AACPS sending an email to each student’s “contact 1” listed in PowerSchool containing a unique link to an electronic device agreement. This form will contain the student’s name and Chromebook serial number based on our updated asset inventory. The electronic agreement form will also communicate that all assigned Chromebooks must be returned to their student’s home school during the last week of school and that more information on the collection process will be provided in May 2024.
From there, AACPS will establish a Student Chromebook Loaner program to assist students who do not have access to an appropriate device at home to complete assignments at home. More information will be communicated about this program before the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
