Wow! What an awesome amount of effort has been shown on M-Step tests so far! If you have a student in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade that still has assessments to complete, please encourage them to do their best. As the scheduled tests wrap up, all make up tests will be completed in the next few weeks. I am so proud of our students and their perseverance!
Spring is always such a busy time of the year. There are often special events, projects and/or field trips. Please be sure you are staying up to date on communication from your child's teacher. If you have questions please contact the teacher or the main office. Another great source of information is the Davisburg PTC. Check out their website here.
It is such a joy to see how much our students have learned this year, and I’m excited to see what skills they will master in the coming weeks. It’s a true honor to spend each day surrounded by these awesome little people. (Even if some of them are taller than me now!)
Grateful for your continued partnership,
Denise Kott

Core Competency: Revisiting Self Management
Self-management describes one’s ability to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations. This includes goal setting and achievement, stress management, planning, organization, and motivation. Providing students with the tools necessary to learn these skills is imperative for their overall success.
Self-management looks like:
The ability to regulate and express emotions in a productive way
Being able to overcome challenges and persevere through difficult situations
Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries
Accepting and incorporating constructive criticism
Effective goal setting
Self-advocacy
Tips for Families
1. Talk to your kids
This one seems simple but talking with your kids about how you manage emotions and help regulate yourself will provide them with a role model for self-management. This also creates awareness that self-management is something that everyone does and has to work at sometimes. You can brainstorm with your child ways that they can regulate themselves, and help them see ways that they may be regulating themself without even realizing it.
2. Set goals together
Talk with your child about goals that you set for yourself, and then work on creating goals together. Ask your child if there is something that they really want to do, or something new they want to try, or get better at. Help your child create a goal that is reasonable and talk about ways to reach it. (You could connect this to Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw!)
3. Have chores
Give your child responsibilities around the house. Having them be responsible for keeping their room and the house organized will help them build organizational skills. Completing chores will also help with self-motivation and self-discipline because your child will be responsible for completing them.
