60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT

LEARNING FRAMEWORK FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 2
At the SCS Board of Education meeting last night, the majority of the Board voted to keep all students, PreK-12, in school 5 days a week for the week of November 2nd. As a reminder, Tuesday, November 3rd is Election Day and as noted on our district calendar, there will be no school for students on Tuesday.
Based on how the COVID-19 County Risk Level system works, Cuyahoga County is not at-risk to turn Purple for the week of November 9th. Also, Cuyahoga County, along with nearly every other county in the state has reached the “high incidence” designation. In this system, so long as we are designated as “high incidence”, we cannot be designated as Level 2/Orange even when we are meeting three (3) or fewer indicators.
Listed below is the pathway for our learning framework for the week of November 9th based on the actual options that are available for the county rating.
Yellow/Orange: If Cuyahoga County is yellow/orange on Thursday, 11/5, there will be no changes to our learning framework and all PreK-12 students will remain in school every day for the week of November 9th.
Red: If Cuyahoga County is red on Thursday, 11/5, the Board of Education will meet that same night to determine our learning framework for the week of November 9th. The decision will be communicated to SCS families on Friday (11/6).
SCS RESPONSIBLE RESTART COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE
Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.
As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.
TWO SHS GRADS FEATURED IN FOX 8 “VOTING CLASS OF 2020” SPECIAL (10/30 - 7:30PM)
For the past three years, Fox 8 News has been chronicling the Class of 2020 and local first time voters. Included in the group are SHS Class of 2020 grads Megan Fleisher and Tyler Smith. Tune in tonight (Fri. 10/30) at 7:30pm for a half hour special and retrospective on the "Voting Class of 2020." SCS TECH CORRAL - YOUR TECH SUPPORT WEBSITE
Our Instructional Technology Department and Curriculum Department have partnered in the creation of the 'SCS Tech Corral.' The site includes reference guides and 'how-to' videos for a number of common programs and software our students and teachers are utilizing. This is a great resource with lots of helpful information. ANNUAL STRONGSVILLE ATHLETIC BOOSTERS CAR RAFFLE - WIN A 2020 CHEVY TRAX!
The Strongsville Athletic Boosters are selling raffle tickets to win a 2020 Chevy Trax donated by Serpentini Chevrolet of Strongsville. The vehicle is on display in front of the SCS bus lot on Pearl Road. Tickets may be purchased for $20 each and only 3,000 will be sold. All proceeds benefit the SCS Excellence in Athletics Turf Project and the Strongsville School’s sports, music and PTA programs. PCs FOR PEOPLE
PCs for People recycles business electronics and provides refurbished computers and low-cost internet to under-resourced households and communities. This program provides financial aid to families in Cuyahoga County with K-12 students by distributing 10,000 free computers and 5,000 hotspots through a partnership with participating Cuyahoga County and Cleveland Public Libraries. Registrations are currently open for the week of October 5th so families can gain access to a computer in their home within a few weeks! Connecting for Kids (CFK) provides education and support to families who have concerns about their child. We serve all families, including those children with and without formal diagnoses. Great Lakes Science Center Learning Lab
Great Lakes Science Center’s new Learning Lab program supports working parents who need daytime childcare for their school-age children. The program provides a safe, supportive environment where children can do their schoolwork virtually. Many of the Science Center’s health and safety procedures for programming during the pandemic were developed for Camp Curiosity, which served more than 1,000 children this summer.
