TYPING.COM
Next week, Mr. Patriquin will begin utilizing the website typing.com to bring a viable typing curriculum to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. We feel the 3rd grade is an excellent place to begin.
As I mentioned in previous communications, to say that typing is a needed skill is a huge understatement. There are some students that might be proficient in their typing abilities; however, we feel it is best to "begin at the beginning" and give our students a core foundation of the manual dexterity needed to be proficient typers.
Our teachers in 3, 4, and 5 will work together on items such as common font size, font type, headings for papers, etc.
If you have any questions, never hesitate to reach out. Thank you!
IXL UPDATE
Next week, we will be breaking down the IXL Incentive Award winners and determining who is eligible for which incentives. I do appreciate all of you that worked very hard over the summer to keep your skills up. As I mentioned earlier this month, I know there was some technical difficulties with the program. THIS WILL NOT affect the incentives that you are due. Of course, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to let me know!
RECESS DUTY SUPERVISION / SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS 🤾
We could still use a couple of more parents / grandparents to help volunteer for playground supervision AS WELL AS we can always use fantastic family members who would be interested in substituting for teachers in our classroom. For substituting in our classrooms, there are some diocesan requirements that need to be met. Please contact the office for more information. Thank you, everyone!!
MUM SALES🌸
It's that time of year again!
7th and 8th graders are once again selling mums from Grown by Country Kids Pumpkin Patch as a fundraiser for the class trip this year. Mums will be delivered to school on Friday, September 13th. Thank you for your help and support with this fundraiser. I know it will be a great success, and all the profits benefit the class trip to DC this spring.
If interested in purchasing mums, please print out and fill in the order form below or contact an HCS 7th or 8th grader. All money is due when order is placed. Cash or check (made out to Holy Childhood School).
AGAIN, JUST A QUICK REMINDER🤮
As a reminder, per handbook policy, to prevent the spread of communicable disease, children should not attend school until they have been free from symptoms ( Fever, Vomiting, Diarrhea ) without medication for 24 hours. If you have questions concerning a specific illness, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your support!
On a separate but related note, if your child is going to be absent for whatever reason, please contact Mrs. Elmore to let us know and we can mark it in attendance. You are more than welcome (and encouraged) to also contact your child's teacher for materials missed.
IT'S THE GOOD NEWS THAT MAKES YOU SMILE😀
A Sophomore at Mascoutah HS (and an HCS alum) is currently taking Honors Chemistry this semester, despite never taking a chemistry class before. She recently aced a test they give students at the beginning of the semester to see what they already know.
Her response: "Mrs. Smith taught us all of that!"

OUR FIRST H.O.P.E. MEETING
On Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30 pm, we will hold our first H.O.P.E. meeting in the cafeteria. H.O.P.E. stands for Holy Childhood Organization of Parents and Educators and is our PTA. All are welcome! Come and see what we’re all about and learn how you can get involved. Babysitting is provided in the aftercare room by older students.
A GREAT PICTURE ON HOW TO HANDLE BULLYING
We do have an on-line anonymous bullying form on our website and have a box in our cafeteria where children can privately drop a note if they witness bullying behaviors.
"Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline."

I CAN NEITHER CONFIRM NOR DENY...
....that this contraption will be at the Fish Fry this evening only.
And a major "THANK YOU" goes to all of the volunteers that have worked hard for this weekend!
THE GROWTH MINDSET🧠
A parent came to me yesterday and said, "I read the 2nd chapter and I can remember specifically in my childhood when I changed from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset."
