“MY ONLY ADVICE IS TO STAY AWARE, LISTEN CAREFULLY, AND YELL FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.”

Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
As we begin the second half of our school year, we are winding down our strategic visioning ‘Portrait of a Graduate’ initiative. The team behind this project has worked hard to bring in student, staff, parent, alumni, and community voice throughout the process. Themes that have emerged over the past 12 weeks are now ready to be further refined. We are asking for your help on this by completing a community engagement survey. The time commitment is 45-60 minutes and may seem like a lot, however we are drafting this guiding document to best serve our future CUSD students and citizens and we want you to have time to think through the draft thoughtfully. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY #2
Next week on Tuesday Feb 13th at 6pm CHS is hosting a College Night for Students and Parents. The presentation will be held in the theater and anyone is welcome to attend (both students and parents at any grade level). This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about the UC and CSU systems, private universities, community college, highly competitive colleges and sports in college. Don’t miss this informative event!
Also next week on Thursday, Feb. 15th at 4pm is our monthly Governing Board meeting. The annual State of the District address will be presented to the Board and community at the meeting.
Don’t forget there is no school next Friday, February 16th (and Monday, February 19th). Have a great weekend,
Karl J. Mueller

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Mrs. Kathryn Goss has an amazing kindergarten reading group and her students are demonstrating significant progress as well as care and concern for one another. Students in her care are making tremendous leaps both academically and behaviorally!
- VES student, Olivia was the only one at curbside this week and was rushing from car to car to help all students get out of their cars safely! Thank you Olivia!
- VES student, Astrid was a superstar on a recent field trip! Very kind and respectful.
- Dana Kane is one of our most experienced, steady, and committed paraprofessionals at SSES. Her natural understanding of students and behavior make her not only a valuable teammate but wonderful mentor. We deeply appreciate her willingness to step in to support a variety of students when we have the need. She is an IABHC anchor for our Voyager vessel!
- Coach JD and Coach Jamie have "gone with the flow" of rain this week and last, supervising indoor and outdoor breakfast and lunch, recesses, and PE. They navigate challenging circumstances with can-do attitudes and are undaunted, optimistic champions of "we've got this!" Thank you for keeping us all "afloat"!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2023-2024 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
