Mountain Lions
October Edition
Literacy Night, Fall Break, Boo Bash, Candy Grams, Halloween Parade Oh My!
I would like to take a moment and thank everyone who came out to establish parntership with your scholars teacher during Parent Teacher Conferences. I believe that together we can not only help our scholars learn the basics both in and out of the classroom but learn to thrive in all situations.
I understand that many families are experiencing a heightened level of anxiety due to the social media threats that are part of a nationawide trend. Please know that both local and federal law enforcement are investigating all threats and have determined that local threats are unsubstantiated.
School at Maldonado will continue as normal. Student and staff safety remains our highest priority and we strive to keep everyone safe and in a positive learning environment. We have numberous protocols in place and participate in ongoing training regularly to ensure that everyone is safe and knows what to do in the case of an emergency.
We encourage you to remind your children of the dangers of social media and rumors. I encourage you to explore the effects of social media on young students, there If they receive any posts or hear rumors that are dangerous or a threat to others, please report it immediately to an adult and school officials, and to not forward it to other students, by working together—schools, families, and law enforcement—we can continue to provide a safe learning environment for all.
Warm regards,
Principal Ramirez

Did your student receive books from My Summer Library last year?
At the end of last year our kindergarten and first grade students were each given the opportunity to pick out 12 books from United Way My Summer Library program. As a part of this grant they ask for families to complete a short survey about the books in order for us to continue in the program. We will be sending hard copies of the My Summer Library Parent Survey with all first and second grade families. Please complete it and send it back or complete it online.
Student Safety Comes First - Important Reminders
To ensure the safety of everyone I would like to remind families of the following:
- Students may be dropped off AFTER 7:20 am. Students should never be left alone at a gate or in a parking lot.
-We are a closed campus with limited points of entry and exit based on available supervision. Only identified gates may be used to access the playground. Never climb over or try to enter a secure gate.
-Parents may walk their students to the exterior door of their teachers classroom and say goodbye at the door in the morning before the bell rings. After the bell rings only authorized personnel may be in the school building.
- Late arrivals will be escorted to class by authorized personnel.
- The entrance off of the bus bay is only for PRESCHOOL students. All others need to use the identified gates.
-Volunteers must be approved through TUSD. As our focus is on instruction, all classroom volunteers must schedule visits ahead of time with the teacher.
Maldonado Family Handbook
Wondering where morning drop off is? (All drop offs will be off of the main playground on Tetakusim) Where should my child line up? (Depends on teacher)What day can I bring in a goodie for my childs birthday? (Fridays at the end of the day) Answers to all of these questions and so much more can be found in our Maldonado Family Handbook. You can find the file here Maldonado Family Handbook.
Parental Involvement
We Want You! We would love to have you as a partner. There are many ways in which you can support Maldonado Elementary. - To ensure the safety of our students, all parent and non-parent volunteers must complete their application each school year.
- HR will review your submitted application and work with your selected school to authorize volunteer work to begin.
