Here Comes Summer
Tomorrow, the Class of 2024 graduates. We hope you can join us in celebrating with us as these seniors take their first steps into their next journey. Commencement is at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Bearcat Stadium. Admission is free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you can't join us in person, check out the live stream on the Chehalis School District Facebook Page or HERE.
For Chehalis School District students in grades K-11, the last day of school is just one week away on June 14. Are you wondering how to keep your kids busy this summer? We have a few ideas for you.
If You Have a Student at W.F. West High School (grades 9-12) ...
Experience STEM with UW:
The University of Washington Summer STEM Camp is an amazing opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to have hands-on STEM learning opportunities led by students and staff from the University of Washington. The best thing? This camp is not just for W.F. West students! It is open to all high schoolers from any district, including homeschoolers. This year, camp will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5-8 at W.F. West High School. Cost is $25 per student, with needs based scholarships available. Try CC for Free:
Once again, we are excited to offer current W.F. West Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to take a class this summer at Centralia College with tuition generously provided by community donations to the Chehalis Foundation. Fiddle Around With Chehalis String Orchestras:
Chehalis Strings Orchestras and the Chehalis Music Booster Club will offer Orchestra Camp for all incoming strings musicians in 6th-9th grade. Camp will take place July 29-Aug. 2 at W.F. West High School. Times are 8-10 a.m. for 6/7th graders and 10-noon for 8/9th graders. Cost is $75 per student. CLICK HERE to register.
Get Back on Track:
Spots are still available but filling fast for a summer school program specifically for students who need to retake one or more classes to stay on track for graduation. This is an essential opportunity for students to complete their required coursework and ensure they are prepared for the upcoming school year. Letters have been sent to families with details about the APEX summer school and course completion requirements. Grow Your Math Skills at Camp:
All incoming students entering 6th-8th grade are invited to a free summer math camp 8:30-11:30 a.m. July 8-11 & July 15-18. This summer learning experience is designed to help students realize their own mathematical potential. Activities are centered around problem-solving, algebraic thinking and mathematical reasoning will help students build connections between how our brains learn and why EVERYONE can succeed in high-level mathematics. Working in groups, students will experience mathematics in open-ended, challenging tasks that can actually be fun and engaging. CLICK HERE to register in English. CLICK HERE to register in Spanish.

Kids ages 2-18 are invited for free summer lunches 11:30 a.m. to noon July 8-11 and July 15-18 at Chehalis Middle School. If you notice, those dates match up exactly with the Math Skills Camp, so students can come to camp and then stay for lunch before heading home.
If You Have a Student at Orin Smith Elementary (Grades 3-5) ...
Get Your Math On ...
There are still limited spots remaining in this year's Summer Math & Reading Camp for incoming 3rd through 5th graders. At this free, fun camp, students get the chance to take part in hands-on activities that will help them build their math and reading skills over the summer. Check Out Summer Library:
Summer Library Hours will be offered for all incoming 3-5th graders 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Orin Smith Elementary library. Come check out a book, do some fun activities and even kick back and read. Parents are welcome.
Have Lunch With Us:
All youth ages 2-18 are invited to free summer lunches Noon-12:30 p.m. July 30-Aug. 1, Aug. 6-8 and Aug. 13-15 at Orin Smith Elementary. Food must be consumed on site. This time coincides with the dates of the Summer Math & Reading Camp, so if your student takes part in the camp, they can stay after and eat lunch before heading home. Kick Off Kindergarten With a Carnival:
All outgoing AND incoming kindergarteners are invited to our first ever Kindergarten Carnival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at James Lintott Elementary. In partnership with United Way and the Summit Learning Center, the Chehalis School District is sponsoring an interactive time with carnival booth games, resources and supplies to make early learning fun. The Kindergarten Carnival will keep learning going for those students who just finished a year in Kindergarten. It will also help prepare kids who are getting ready for their first year at school. Camp Like a Kindergartener:
Incoming Kindergarteners are invited to Kindergarten Motor Skills Camp, taking place 10 a.m. to noon July 24-25 at James Lintott Elementary. This event is designed to help young learners practice the skills necessary for a successful first year at school such as fine motor skills like coloring and cutting with scissors and gross motor skills like skipping and running. This camp is limited to the first 50 students, so sign your student up today by calling Cornerstone at (360) 219-7267.
Check Out Summer Library:
Summer Library Hours will be offered 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the James Lintott Elementary library. Incoming 1st and 2nd graders can check out books (sorry incoming Kindergarteners, you'll be able to check out books in the fall), do some fun activities and even kick back and read. Parents are welcome.

Other Community Events
Here is a list of some of the summer opportunities in Chehalis that aren't OUR events, but are still worth checking out:
- The Chehalis location of Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County still has spots available for its summer programs for students in grades K-5 and 6-12. Programming will be offered for 10 weeks, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $125 per week for grades K-5 and $50 a week for grades 6-12, plus a $25 membership fee if you are not already a member of the Boys & Girls Club. - Chehalis Parks and Recreation offers summer swim lessons, camps and sports clinics throughout the summer. The best part? You might get to meet some of our awesome coaches and student athletes, who partner with the city to make these activities possible. The partnership doesn't cost the school district anything and the chance for young athletes to meet some of their heroes or be inspired is priceless. CLICK HERE for more information.
- Kinetic Connections Sensory Camp for ages 4-12, presented by the Lewis County Autism Coalition - Wednesdays June 19-July 24 at Activity Building in Henderson Park. Includes games, movement and sensory plan as well as community and parent education sessions. Cost: $75 with scholarships available. CLICK HERE for more information.
- Timberland Regional Library has a full slate of summer events at its many locations. Sign up for the Summer Library Program, happening now through Aug. 31, and get a free book, a tote bag and an activity log. After you complete 10 activities (or 1 activity ten times!), come back to the library to receive: A second free book to keep (for ALL participants of any age!) While supplies last, youth also receive: A free ticket to Northwest Trek Wildlife Park or Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (for youth ages 12 and under) & a free ticket to a Tacoma Rainiers game (for youth ages 4-13; children 3 and under always enter free). - The Lewis County Clothing & Textile Advisors will be holding a Sewing Camp for kids ages 9-18 July 8-12 at the Logan Hill Grange. A fashion show for friends and family will be held on the last day of camp. Cost is $60 per student. CLICK HERE to view more information.
