5 Essentials Parent Survey - Now Open
Over the next few months, students, parents, and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the eleventh annual, statewide “Illinois 5Essentials Survey,” intended to help school districts make decisions with the ultimate goal of helping students learn and grow.
The survey window will be open from Tuesday, January 30, 2024 through Friday, March 29, 2024.
Below is a question-and-answer-style overview of the survey and the survey link.
What is the “5Essentials Survey”?
This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school and our district as a whole.
How does the survey help the district improve?
Through ongoing data analysis by UChicago, the survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and increased academic growth. The five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Educational studies continue to show that focusing on academic performance data alone does not increase student achievement.
What does UChicago’s research show about performance on 5Essentials?
Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.
Who all takes the survey?
All district families, teachers, and 4th through 12th grade students take the survey.
When will the results be available?
5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. For students, we work diligently to ensure 95% of students complete the survey so there is no impact to our summative designations issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in late May 2024 and will also be included in the State School Report Card that is published at the end of October each year.
How do I take the survey?
Click the button below to take the 5Essentials Parent/Guardian Survey. You will need to enter a valid email address, select “Peoria County” and select the school for which you will be completing the survey.
