Community Conversations
The District's Elementary Planning Task Force will be holding Community Conversations at our seven elementary schools over the next few months to gather input on a potential redistricting and repurposing of our elementary boundaries and buildings. We hope you can attend one of the conversations. Learn more about the task force on the Elementary Planning Task Force page of the District website.

Spotlight on Social-Emotional Lessons with Mrs. Conway
In November, our social emotional learning focus is on self-management. This is a very important theme, and is consistently the weakest skill set based on our Social Skills Improvement System (SSIS) screener. Lesson topics - differentiated by grade level - may include self-control, stress management, focus, problem-solving, goal setting and resilience.
Reminders for Roosevelt
Allergies and Classroom Treats
Food allergies can be very serious but together we can manage them safely. Food allergy reactions are unpredictable. Even the smallest amount of a food allergen can cause a severe reaction. The only way to prevent a food allergy reaction is to avoid the problem food (allergen). All treats and snacks provided for a class must be store bought, individually packaged at purchase, and ingredients clearly listed (food label attached). Schools have the responsibility to protect the health and safety of all students. Treats that do not follow the above guidelines will be declined and will not be shared with students. For more guidelines about classroom treats, please refer to our family handbook. Thank you for your cooperation.
Attendance
Excessive Absence is defined as (1) absent 38 or more hours in a month with or without an excuse or (2) absent 65 or more hours in a year with or without an excuse
Habitual Truancy is defined as (1) absent 30 or more consecutive hours without a legitimate excuse, (2) absent 42 or more hours in one month without a legitimate excuse, or (3) absent 72 or more hours in one year without a legitimate excuse.
*Hours also include total number of minutes tardy to school and early dismissal.
Cafeteria Snack
Students have the opportunity to purchase a "snack" in the cafeteria, which includes chips, fruit roll ups, ice cream, etc. In the past, we have noticed that some students eat little of their packed or hot lunches, and mainly eat the snack. Please have a conversation with your child if he/she purchases snacks, or limit the number of days that you allow a purchase. Our voice only goes so far!
Cell Phone and Personal Electronic Device Reminder
Student personal cell phones/electronic devices shall be turned off and put away in backpacks while on school property. If a caretaker needs to contact a child, please contact the school office at 216-529-4224. Thank you.
Dismissal
Our south facing doors are only intended for students who walk home from school. Do not park and walk up to the doors. Adding additional traffic and parked cars on Bayes and neighboring streets creates unnecessary congestion and an extremely unsafe situation for our families and neighbors. It also blocks residents from accessing their driveways.
Party Invitations
Please do not send invitations to children's parties to school to be distributed. It is recommended that parents get to know your child's friends and their families, making exchanging invitations natural and convenient.
Playground Use & Supervision Before/After School
We do not provide supervision of students prior to 8:30am and after 3:05 p.m. Please remind your child that he/she is expected to go directly home after school. Students are not permitted on the playground before or after school from 3:05-4:00pm without adult supervision on the playground. The playground is closed when it is being used by YMCA after care from 4:00-5:00pm. Children having difficulty with appropriate behavior before or after school may result in school discipline.
