From Nurse Chrissy
The recent rain and weather changes have the fall pollen count already rising in our area. Mold
and grasses the past two week are particularly bothersome with high pollen counts almost
daily. These elevated allergens can cause your child to experience coughing, headache, runny
and/or stuffy nose, sneezing, scratchy or sore throat, watery or itchy eyes, or skin rashes and
irritations. These symptoms, if left untreated, can lead to throat, respiratory, ear, eye or sinus
infections.
If your child is experiencing any of these common allergy symptoms at home, please consider
adding an over the counter allergy medicine to their morning routine so they will be
comfortable at school. Several options are available that are non-drowsy and typically well
tolerated. Your pediatrician or your family pharmacist are great resources if you have specific
questions concerning what to use or dosing. Please keep in mind that I do not have medications
here to dispense and that these should be given by a parent or guardian before coming to
school.
I just really want your students to feel good so they are comfortable to learn.
The pollen count indicator that I use is updated daily and can be found here:
Thank you,
Chrissy Lovel, LVN.
