May: Perseverance and Exciting Events Ahead!
Dear Families and Caregivers,
As we step into May, our school community is focusing on the character trait of perseverance—the ability to keep going, even when things are challenging. Whether it’s working through a tough assignment, staying focused during testing, or practicing for a big performance, we’re encouraging our students to stick with it and celebrate their growth along the way.
As always, our Big Three school expectations continue to guide our daily actions:
-
Make safe choices
-
Be respectful
-
Build community
These values help create a positive, supportive environment where all students can thrive.
This month is full of exciting events and opportunities to show perseverance in action! We kick off NJSLA state testing for grades 4–6 from May 5–8, followed by Grade 5 Science testing on May 12–13. We are proud of how our students are preparing and giving their best effort.
We’re also looking forward to:
-
Art for the Sky, a unique and collaborative outdoor art experience that connects creativity, community, and sustainability.
-
Our spring music concerts, where students will showcase their hard work and talents in a celebration of the arts.
Thank you for your continued support as we finish the school year strong. Let’s keep encouraging our students to persevere, follow the Big Three, and enjoy all that May has to offer!
With gratitude,
Dr. J and the UES Leadership Team
Art For the Sky: A Schoolwide Community Creation
We’re thrilled to be participating in Art for the Sky with artist Daniel Dancer as we come together to create a giant “shooting star” image right on our school grounds!
Each homeroom will be assigned a specific shirt color to wear (with no writing on the back) to help form the image—your child’s assigned color can be found here.
To learn more about Daniel Dancer’s incredible sky art projects and get a glimpse of what this experience will be like, visit his website here. We can’t wait for this creative, community-driven event!
Reminder: Dress Code & Weather-Appropriate Clothing
As the weather continues to change, please help us ensure that students are dressed appropriately for the season. We want everyone to be comfortable, safe, and ready to learn!
Just a reminder that all clothing should follow our school dress code as outlined in the student handbook. This includes wearing clothing that is suitable for learning and for outdoor activities like recess.
Thank you for your support in helping our students stay focused and prepared each day!
