The Friday Flyer
From Boone Meadow Elementary School
From the Eagles' Nest:
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
Only a handful of days remain as we begin to wind down 2016. It is amazing how time flies. As usual, it was a busy and rewarding week in the school house. Students had a successful week with coding, continued work on Genius Projects (3rd), persuasive essays (4th), fine tuning Animal Projects (1st) and many other great learning experiences. It is exciting to witness the students capitalizing on learning experiences!
A few items to note below:
- Food Drive success! A tremendous "thank you" to Chelsea Sharpe for her coordination of a successful drive. Our contribution of over 1,500 items was greatly appreciated. (See the message from the Zionsville Food Pantry below!)
- Regarding time out of school - Please note that if you plan to take your student out of school for a vacation or other prearranged absence, we request a Prearranged Absence Form at least 2 days in advance so that the teacher and office are aware of the student's absence and can plan accordingly. These forms can be found in the office or under the Parents/important information portion of the website.
- As the weather gets colder and roads and sidewalks get slick, please be aware of surroundings at bus stops. Students should hold on to the railing going up and down the bus stairs, and should not be running around the bus stop area or when getting onto or off of the bus. In addition, we do not have a staff member located on Main Street in front of the building at this time. If you are a walker and need assistance at the crosswalk, please contact the school, and we will arrange for a staff member to assist during the colder weather. We will resume daily support at the crosswalk in the spring.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Tom

ZCS Winter/Snow Policies
As Old Man Winter prepares to roll in, please be sure to send your student to school appropriately dressed for the weather as it grows colder and snow is on the ground. As stated in the handbook:
As the weather turns colder, each child needs a winter coat, hat, and gloves. Snow pants and boots are required when there is snow on the ground.
Students without snow pants and boots (when there is snow on the ground) will only be permitted to play on the cleared blacktop.
All children play outside except on rainy, icy, or very cold days (wind chill below the 10-20 degree range)." Inside recess will be held on those exceptional days.
For more information regarding our procedures for school delays and closings please visit our website.
Food Drive "Thank You" from The Zionsville Food Pantry Leadership Team
Ladies and gentlemen,
I just wanted to thank you all for contributing to the roughly 12,000 pounds of food and several hundred dollars in cash and gift cards that were donated to the Pantry through Tackle Hunger. We are so grateful as this food drive gets us through the Winter every year.
Another aspect of this drive is the "publicity" we get. Families contact us to volunteer as they learn about the need through the schools. I hope you saw the newspaper article too!
On behalf of our clients, please accept our sincere gratitude once again for filling our shelves!
Happy Holidays to you too!

School Safety
School Visitor Check-Ins at ZCS
Please be aware that we use a visitor management system known as SafeVisitor. SafeVisitor is a 30-45 second check-in process that cross references against all national sex offender registries and prints a visitor badge. Please be prepared to scan a government issued ID (Driver License) when arriving to campus as a visitor or volunteer. The printed badge should be visible at all times while in the building. Thank you!
Please note: Full background checks are still required field trips. Full background checks cost $15.95 and take at least 7-10 days to process. Limited background checks are still required for lunch visits, volunteering in a supervised area, etc.
**Bullying Video**
All volunteers in our district are also required to complete the bullying module, consisting of a short video and a digital signature as proof of watching the video. This video must be watched for either level of volunteer (Full or Limited). Please click here to visit the BRAVO/Volunteers page where all of these items can be completed.
Smart 911

This is a free service that allows you to receive emergency notifications from the county which may include severe weather warnings and traffic alerts. The program will ask for optional personal information that could be used in the event of an emergency situation in your home.
