RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
It is important to extend gratitude to our students, staff, and families for ongoing support and understanding during a difficult time. For families who find continuing challenges and struggles I have included the letter of resources and support that was provided previously to our students and families.
Potential Expanded Bell Schedule 2024-2025: We have been exploring numerous approaches to our bell schedule with the hope of increasing opportunities in the classroom for students. We are working hard to consider the best path forward in order to offer MORE courses that are driven by student-interest and work to create a better foundation for students plans for the future. As we begin course selection for the coming school year, students will be asked to select more courses of interest than in years past so we can ensure we are doing all we can to meet the needs of all students.
As we move forward into the month of March we have many important events/programming coming up:
1. Progress Report 1 for the second semester concludes on Friday, March 15.
2. It is course selection time for the 2024-2025 school year! School Guidance Counselors will visit English classes to start the course selection process the week of March 18-22. All teachers are asked to discuss with students course selections for next year, and teachers will need to initial student course selection sheets as students make their choices.
3. Our Annual Academic Showcase will take place on Wednesday, March 20 from 5:00-7:00 pm - we encourage all students and their families to join us for an open house format to experience all the learning that has been happening at MHS. (Flyer below)
4. We welcome our incoming Class of 2028 for 8th Grade Step-Up Night on Thursday, March 28. (Flyer below)
5. Finally, we ask that students and families remember that food/drinks are not allowed on RSU 57 transportation.
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow

Celebrating National School Social Workers Week!
Sending a special message of gratitude to the MHS School Social Workers. (Left to Right in the picture attached) Meagan Desjardins, Shelley Morse, Janis Johnson, Matt Holt, & Erica Brown. This week is National School Social Worker Week - we are incredibly fortunate to have these five individuals work so hard to help our students (and staff) navigate challenging situations while developing skills and strategies for future success. THANK YOU!
Dirigo State is offered each year and is run by the Maine American Legion. This FREE event, June 16-21, 2024, will be on the Colby College campus in Waterville, ME. (Previously called Boys State or Girls State) Dirigo State is a co-ed program at which students operate a mock local, county, and state government. Dirigo State has a long history - maybe your parents or grandparents attended the program when it was called Boys State or Girls State! While at Dirigo State, participants will live in the dorms and eat in the cafeteria at Colby College - and it's FREE. If interested, please pick up the Dirigo State Questionnaire and Parental Permission Form in the guidance office. FMI: refer to the email Mr. Rodgers sent to juniors on February 14th or contact Mrs. Curtis in the guidance office (deborahcurtis@rsu57.org).
