EMS - Quarter 2 Update
October 27, 2024
Hello Falcon Families!
As we dive into the final days of October, we have some exciting events coming up! Red Ribbon Week began on October 25th and will continue through Halloween, October 31st. This week, students are encouraged to take a stand for healthy, drug-free lifestyles with activities like our “Pledge to Be Drug-Free” banner and our Wear Red Day.
We’re also kicking off our annual Canned and Non-Perishable Food Drive tomorrow in partnership with the Byron Delta Lions Club. Please consider sending in any donations with your student to give to their TEAM teacher as we support those in need in our community. In late November, we’ll be partnering with the Brentwood Regional Community Chest for another drive to collect food and new toys for the holiday season.
This week, we’ll have several Halloween events to enjoy. Join us for our Halloween Concert on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM, where costumes are encouraged in the audience. On Wednesday, October 30th, we’ll host our Fall Social from 12:30–2:30 PM - an afternoon of games, food, and fun for students and families. Finally, on Thursday, October 31st, students can show off their Halloween spirit at our Costume Contest during lunch!
We look forward to celebrating with everyone and hope to see lots of participation in these great activities!
If you have any questions, email me at jkeith@byron.k12.ca.us.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jamie Keith

Halloween Costume Guidelines
Throughout the school year, we have various dress-up days, and Halloween is no exception! Students (and staff!) are welcome to wear costumes on Thursday, October 31st. However, please keep in mind that the school dress code will still apply. Here are a few important guidelines to consider when helping your student choose a costume:
- No full-face masks or full-face paint because we need to be able to identify students, even in costume.
- Costumes should not interfere with class participation or movement (inflatable costumes must be turned off during class time)
- Costumes that are provocative, revealing, or inappropriate (including questionable props) are not allowed.
- Costumes depicting violence, drugs, alcohol, or that include weapons (real or fake) are not permitted.
- Costumes should be respectful and not perpetuate stereotypes based on culture, gender, heritage, or religion.
Costumes are completely optional, but students wearing anything inappropriate will be asked to modify their outfit. If you’re unsure about a costume choice, feel free to ask Ms. Keith or Ms. Voqui.
Thank you for helping us ensure a fun and safe Halloween for all!
Red Ribbon Spirit Week 10/28 - 10/31
Red Ribbon Week is here! Since 1985, Red Ribbon Week has encouraged students and families nationwide to stand together for a drug-free lifestyle. It began in honor of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life fighting drug trafficking. Red Ribbon Week has since grown into a powerful movement dedicated to making healthy choices.
This year’s theme is "Life is a Movie, Film Drug-Free." Join us in celebrating a healthy, drug-free lifestyle with daily spirit activities:
- Monday: Movie Star Monday – Dress like your favorite movie star!
- Tuesday: We are “RED-y” to Say No to Drugs – Show your support by wearing red!
- Wednesday: Team Up Against Drugs and take the "Say No To Drugs" pledge at recess – Wear your favorite sports jersey and sign the pledge banner at recess!
- Thursday: Say "Boo" to Drugs – Wear your Halloween costume to school!
We’re excited for a fun week that reminds us all to make choices that lead to bright, healthy futures.
Veterans Day Assembly
We are honored to invite our veterans and active-duty parents to our annual Veterans Day Assembly, a cherished tradition where our school community comes together to pay tribute to the men and women who have dedicated themselves to serving our country. We would like to honor, celebrate, and express our deepest appreciation for the sacrifices and courage of our military and their families. This special assembly will be held on Tuesday, November 12th, from approximately 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and all parents and community members who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces are warmly invited to join us. Following the assembly, we will host a lunch in gratitude for our servicemembers and their families.
If you or a family member are a veteran or active-duty servicemember, or if you are a veteran or active-duty member of our community and would like to attend, please fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM to RSVP. We hope to see many of you there as we recognize our community’s heroes!
