Summer School FAQs
Summer School for Credit Advancement is a great opportunity for HTHS students! Students may elect to take Health, Career Prep A, Career Prep B, Spanish II, Algebra I w/ Probability or Precalculus during the summer on ACCESS Distance Learning Platform. Students may also take Driver Education at HTHS with Coaches Bromley and Boyette.
During the school year, Health/Driver Education is taught in one semester. Some students find it helpful to take these courses during the summer to free up a period for an elective course during the regular school year.
Please Note: Career Prep B will be available over the summer for HTHS students. Starting with the Class of 2026 (current 10th graders, Ms. Stalls) and beyond, there will no longer be a waiver option to take Career Prep B alongside Economics during senior year. Instead, students will need to enroll in a 0.50 credit course during the summer, zero period, or during the regular school day to meet the graduation requirement.
Students enrolled in ACCESS (Career Prep A, Career Prep B, Health, Spanish II, Algebra I and/or Precalculus) summer school course(s) are encouraged to attend a Zoom meeting, as a representative from ACCESS/Virtual Learning will be present to discuss online learning requirements and answer general questions. It is highly recommended that all students/parents attend a ZOOM meeting, information is provided at the end of each ACCESS course information page linked below.
IMPORTANT: ACCESS students are required to complete an ACCESS Student Orientation at the beginning of the course. Google Chrome and Firefox browsers preferred.

2024 Credit Recovery Program Dates: June 3th through June 28th
In accordance with the guidelines of the Alabama State Department of Education, Hewitt-Trussville High School will offer students who have received failing grades in courses that are required for graduation an opportunity to recover the lost credit through a standards-based approach that will target specific knowledge and skill deficits instead of requiring the student to repeat the entire course. The Summer School Credit Recovery Program will be operated under the guidelines established through the Alabama State Department of Education.
A tuition fee of $180 per course must be paid to participate in the program and will be nonrefundable should the student be dismissed from the program. If your student is eligible to attend, you will receive a letter by mail the first of June with more information. The letter will include online payment fee link, application, registration and agreement forms. Forms with payment are to be submitted on or by June 5th.
