Woodglen's Thanksgiving Day Parade
It’s that time of year again!!! Our 4th graders have been working since September to prepare for Woodglen’s Thanksgiving Day Parade which happened on Friday, November 22.
They learned about the origin of New York’s famous Thanksgiving Day Parade and have read books about the balloons, floats, performances and their origins. They also used the Engineering Design Process to create their own floats that were placed on robots and controlled to go down Woodglen’s “Parade Route!!!” In addition to learning about grandstands and all about parades, the students learned how to “drive” several different robots down the route. These included the Dash, Sphero Indis, Bee Bots, Spheros and Botleys. Students learned to code and control the robots’ speeds so that parade goers were able to see each and every beautifully designed float. This event was part of a school wide enrichment celebration and the 4th graders loved to be a part of it. “The Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of my favorite days of the year,” James (a former 4th grader) said. What a festive event brought to you by the 4th graders and their teachers with a little help from Mrs. Embry and Ms. Imperial...also special thanks to Mr. Zbar, as well!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
YUMMY THANKSGIVING RECIPES...
Turkey Pudding Cups
Supplies:
This is to make one cookie pudding cup.
Turkey Brownies: Adorably Easy Thanksgiving Dessert
- Brownie mix
- Candy corn
- Candy eyes (Wilton brand is my favorite)
- Mini (orange) M&M
- Mini York Peppermint Patties
- Melted chocolate/icing
Bake brownies according to directions.
Once ready, gather all the candy you’ll need to make your turkey face. Be sure to have some melted chocolate or icing to adhere the candy to the brownie (we used icing since it was readily available). You can try a toothpick, but we found that didn’t work well for spreading the icing adequately, so we used a combination of our fingertips and a fork.
Make sure you start with the turkey’s face/peppermint patty so that the process goes faster. (Starting with the feathers adds a few more minutes and takes precision!)
Add your candy eyes by dotting icing on the back and using a small tweezer to help you position them as desired. Then half your M& M and attach as well.
Next grab 3 candy corns for each brownie piece to use as the turkey’s feathers. Carefully attach the candy corn pieces to the brownie with the icing and then lay the york peppermint on top. I found this to be the hardest part as you have to press down on each piece without breaking them. It may take a minute, but will complete your adorable dessert!

Twist and Shake Review by Jordan
Twist and Shake is an ice cream store located in New City, New York. Twist and Shake is good because it has so many kinds of flavors. For example vanilla, chocolate, and much more! My personal favorite is cookies and cream. Twist and Shake should add more toppings because they don’t have a lot, The prices for the ice creams should be lower. I give Twist and Shake an 8 out of 10. I recommended this place.
