🏫 District Reminders
Manville Community,
As part of our ongoing commitment to health and safety, we would like to share important guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the safe handling of medications at home for both adults and children.
Medication Safety Tips for Adults
Keep a list: Maintain an up-to-date list of all medicines, vitamins, and supplements you take, and share this with your doctor.
Follow label directions: Always take medications exactly as instructed on the label or by your healthcare provider.
Take medicine on time: Some medications need to be taken at specific times or with food. Consider using a reminder app or setting a timer.
Turn a light on: Always read medicine labels under good lighting to avoid errors. Wear glasses if needed.
Ask questions: Don’t hesitate to contact your pharmacist or doctor if you’re unclear about how to take a medication.
Get the tests you need: Follow through with any blood tests or checkups your doctor recommends for monitoring medications.
Medication Safety Tips for Children
Know the dose: Always read and follow label instructions. Use the dosing device that comes with the medicine—never a household spoon.
Check the label: Be sure not to give your child two medications with the same active ingredient.
Use the right tool: If the proper dosing tool is missing, ask your pharmacist for one.
Get questions answered: If anything is unclear, speak with a doctor or pharmacist before giving medicine.
Teach children: Help your child understand that medicine is not candy and should only be taken when given by a trusted adult.
Lock the safety cap: Always ensure the safety cap is secured after each use.
Put medicines away: Store medications out of sight and reach of young children immediately after use.
We’re also pleased to share that the Manville Police Department has joined forces with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to implement Project Medicine Drop. This important initiative was launched for residents to dispose of unused or expired medications safely.
A secure prescription drug drop box has been installed in the Manville Police Department lobby, and it is accessible to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can anonymously dispose of unused or expired pills, capsules, patches, and pet medications.
Practicing these safety habits helps prevent medication errors and ensures that treatments are as effective and safe as possible.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our community healthy and safe.
