Cartersville Middle School
The Hurricane Watch September 2024
Hello CMS Family,
It has been a fantastic start to the 24-25 school year! We have just finished our first month of school, and progress reports will be sent home tomorrow. Please take the time to review your childβs progress and donβt hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns. We encourage you to stay in contact with your childβs teachers throughout the school year and monitor their grades through Infinite Campus. Additionally, please review your childβs agenda each night. This is a great tool to help your student communicate about what they are learning throughout the day.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your childβs education.
Go Canes,
Mrs. Montgomery

Students of the Month
What their teams had to say!
Winnie
Winnie is an amazing sixth-grade student who adapted immediately to her new environment. She carries herself with poise and grace and never hesitates to help her peers or staff. She embodies everything we expect from our sixth graders.
Gladys
Gladys sees other students and their needs and does not hesitate to jump in and help. A recent example is when one of our students was struggling at her locker while other students were busily getting their own materials. Gladys went out of her way to ask how she could help. Gladys is a great example of what can be accomplished with a little kindness and empathy toward others.
G.G.
G.G. comes to school each day with a positive attitude. She helps her homeroom classmates get ready for the day by stamping their agendas and providing feedback on their daily tasks. She consistently greets all of her peers with kindness. Thank you, G.G.!
Bentley
Bentley is a kind, hardworking, and helpful individual. He is always engaged in every lesson and participates every day. Bentley encourages others when they are feeling down and is always ready to help me with anything I need. Bentley lights up any room he walks into, and I am honored that I get to teach him.
What their teams had to say!
Purple Team - Heston
When we were asked to choose our student of the month, Heston immediately came to mind. Heston is a well-rounded individual who works well with others. He shows initiative and is a role model to others on the team. He is selfless, a self-starter, and cares for the needs of others. He is a respectable gentleman who assists teachers and students without being prompted. Not only is he a leader academically, but he also shines on the football field as well. Heston is a wonderful representative for 7th grade Purple team's student of the month.
Gold Team - Ayoki
Ayoki has continuously gone out of her way to befriend a student brand new to CMS. We have watched their friendship grow, and Ayoki always makes sure the student is not left out.
White Team - Judah
Judah is such a respectful young man. He is always thinking of others and is willing to aid anyone in need. Judah checks on others, both students and adults, to make sure they are okay. He is an outstanding young man and a pleasure to teach.
What their teams had to say!
Purple Team - Zion
Zion is a kind, respectful, and hardworking young lady. She always displays maturity and a positive attitude, and she is eager to help when needed. Zionβs smile lights up a room, and we are so glad to have her in our Purple Team Family!
Gold Team - Brayden
Brayden embodies the Canes Code! He is committed to excellence, owns his behavior, demonstrates respect, and always has a positive attitude. He is a leader both inside and outside of the classroom. In class, he is eager to participate and encourages others to do the same. He is active on our CMS Football team and exhibits the same qualities on the field. Brayden Ford is the 8 Gold Student of the Month!
White Team - Elana
We are thrilled to recognize Elana, an outstanding 8th grader, for her exceptional dedication and hard work. Elana is known for her quiet determination and remarkable work ethic, consistently setting a high standard for her peers. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to stay focused and diligent in all her tasks make her a true role model. Elanaβs perseverance and positive attitude are truly inspiring, and we are proud to have her as part of our school community.

Welcome back CMS families! As the new school year begins, itβs crucial to ensure that our middle schoolers are well-rested and ready to excel. Adolescents need roughly 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night, but their natural tendency is to stay up late. Nocturnal behavior, combined with early school start times, can make it difficult for them to get enough sleep each night. Adequate sleep is essential for cognitive benefits like enhanced memory, creativity, and problem-solving. It also plays a vital role in emotional well-being, helping to regulate mood and reducing the risk of anxiety and depression. Therefore, students who get enough sleep have better grades, attendance, and social skills than those who do not.
To help your middle school student get the sleep they need, establish a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends. Encourage them to turn off electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime to ensure that their naturally occurring sleep hormone, melatonin, is not disrupted. Reducing caffeine intake, especially in the evening, can also prevent sleep disturbances. Creating a comfortable and sleep-friendly (dark and quiet) environment in their bedroom can also contribute to a good nightβs rest. By prioritizing sleep, we can ensure our teens are happier, more focused, and ready for a successful school year.
