Reminder that Mrs. Clairday is available to assist students with college applications, scholarships, financial aid, career assessments, and resumes.
If parents/seniors need assistance completing the FAFSA application please reach out to Mrs. Clairday. Once your student completes the application, they need to make sure the college they plan to attend does not need any additional documents. Typically, the college will send the student an email if additional information is needed. Students will need to review the financial aid awards given by the college. Students then will need to accept or decline the offers. If a student's financial situation has changed since completing the FAFSA then they will need to reach out to the financial aid office at the college they plan to attend, and request a meeting. If students plan to take out a loan, they will need to complete the Master Promissory Note and complete loan counseling through studentaid.gov.

CTE Completer Information
A completer is a student who has taken three specific courses (taken in order) in a program of study. At Brookland, we currently offer completer pathways in the following areas:
Agricultural Power Structural, and Technical Systems
Animal Systems
Army JROTC
AV Technology and Film
Family and Consumer Science-Human and Social Services
Marketing Business Enterprise
Nutrition Science
Office Administration
Be on the lookout for new ones to come!!
Brookland students are also recognized who completed pathways available at the Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center and through Black River Technical Center.
Completers are recognized at the end of their senior year with a seal on their transcript, identified in the graduation program, and awarded a cord to wear during the graduation ceremony. Completers are also valuable in the eyes of an employer because they show they have the perseverance and determination to finish what they start. Completers whose program of study matches their chosen career, likely already have entry level skills in the field and may have better chances for employment as they will provide benefits to the employer sooner than someone without those basic skills. In many of the programs of study, being a completer provides students the opportunity to take industry certification exams, which may also increase their skill set and better their chances of employment.
The first step in being a completer is to take the Level 1 course.
Below, you will find information about each of our completer opportunities in the following format:

Starting a program in the 9th or 10th grade allows students more time to be a completer. Starting in August 2024, 8th graders can also sign up to take Survey of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Survey of Business for credit, providing them with more time and opportunities to complete one or more programs.
This year, our CTE completers were also recognized at a banquet, where they were provided a meal, heard an encouraging message from Mr. John Campbell with HomeTronix, and were presented with certificates of completion.

Katie Thomas has wanted to be an officer in the US Military since she was in the 7th grade. Her goal was to attend a Service Academy. Once she decided she wanted to go to the Naval Academy she had to receive 2 Congressional Nominations. One of them was Congressman Crawford and the other was Senator Boseman. She took the ACT test 10 times and scored a Composite of 29. After hearing of her wishes she was offered a full 4 year Naval ROTC Scholarship at the Citadel. She chose that path and will be starting school in the Fall.
Manning McAfee decided in early fall that he wanted to enlist in the US Navy and attempt to become a Navy SEAL. Once he enlisted he was given the opportunity to Compete for an open draft from all 6 SEAL Teams. He was given a rigorous Physical Fitness Test that an average of 15 percent of the people actually pass. He passed the test on his very first attempt and was drafted on the First look. He will attend Basic Training and then go straight to Navy Seal Selection School.
On April 20, 2024 JROTC participated in our Annual Service Learning project where the Battalion raised over $7750 in support of St Jude's hospital. The Battalion provided parking, food, and a donation bucket support for the Annual Chevy 10 truck show.

Special Olympics
Athletes recently competed at JHS for SO Track and Field. We took about 20 volunteers with us, along with 14 athletes from JH/HS. All of our students represented Brookland extremely well! If you see any of these students, please tell them what a great job they did! Each athlete received two medals.
Our student volunteers also represented our district well. They are interactive with our athletes, they are diligent about athlete safety, and they take pictures like a proud big brother or sister. It is truly heart-warming to know we have such an amazing group of students who want to include everyone, no matter what! Track and field is a bit chaotic and these students handled everything so gracefully and with a smile on their faces!
