Change is an Integral Part of Life
As the month is about to move from October to November AND the weather switched seasons overnight, it serves as a reminder of the ever-constant truth: change is an integral part of life. Just as the world around us adapts to new seasons, we too have the opportunity to embrace change as a chance for growth and improvement.
Change can be unsettling, challenging, and even uncomfortable at times, but it also offers us the prospect of renewal, progress, and fresh perspectives. In our roles as educators/coaches/student supporters, we play a pivotal part in shaping the lives of our students, and our ability to adapt to change is a key factor in their educational journey.
Whether it's the introduction of new teaching methods, curriculum adjustments, or shifts in the way we interact with our students and colleagues, each change brings the potential for positive outcomes. We can explore new opportunities, refine our skills, and make a lasting impact on the lives of our students.
Let's not forget that change is not an isolated event but a continuous process. Just as nature evolves with the seasons, so should our teaching methods, communication strategies, and the way we engage with our students. By recognizing change as an opportunity, we can better prepare ourselves and our students for the world that awaits them. Let's be open to change, embrace it, and make the most of the opportunities it brings.
Together, we an continue to provide our students with the best education possible, equipping them them with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world!

Cardinal Recognitions
Congratulations to the following teachers for receiving the first round of PTEF's Helping Hand Grants!
In this first cycle, PTEF awarded 25 grants (4 to SHS teachers!) equalling over $10,000 in Helping Hand Grants. If you're interested in applying for the next cycle, applications will be accepted 10/9 through 12/1 with teachers being notified by 12/8. Visit https://ptef.org/grants/available-grants/helping-hand-grant/ to submit your grant applications.
Emily Chambers
As part of her Understanding Diversity class, Ms. Chambers is having groups of students select a country and then plan to make a dish that is representative of that country. Students will make a grocery list and then Ms. Chambers will pick up the food orders so students can make their dishes in the food lab. When the dishes are made, students will be able to fill out their "passport" to experience different countries.
Jennifer Karushis
As part of her work-based learning class, Mrs. Karushis wanted her students to be able to provide coffee service to the SHS staff. With the grant, the students or "coffee crew" will now be able to purchase the materials to get the program up and running. This will allow students to learn skills that will help them with future employment after high school while the staff receives much needed caffeine - it's a Win Win situation!
Holly Ellis
Mrs. Ellis wrote the grant to help support the students in her Nutrition and Wellness class. The students use a variety of skills to follow recipes and learn how to make different dishes, but they were lacking needed kitchen utensils. Mrs. Ellis used the grant to purchase the stand mixer, pans, kitchen tools, and other needed items so the students can continue the culinary adventures.
Great Job!
Mark Snodgrass
Mr. Snodgrass was awarded the Helping Hand grant so Computer Science students can utilize their skills and knowledge to make virtual reality simulations for others. The funds were used to purchase a Meta Quest 2 All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset to be used with the simulation the students create. Mr. Snodgrass is seeing that making simulations is a growing field and he wants to be on the forefront so our students will have the first opportunity in job that don't even exist yet!
Congratulations!
