Mr. Mauck's Musings
What a great first full week of school. The students and staff have done an exemplary job of getting back into a learning routine. The 500 hallway teachers are posting a question of the which students may answer for small prizes. Students may want to know a group of Wildcats is called a destruction or a dowt. Congratulations to Deseray Price and Mrs. Joan Noblitt for their selection as our student and staff of the week. Ms. Emma Popp participated in the NSBA World competition and won first place. Congratulations Emma and good luck next year at the University of Georgia. The Freshmen class has a new set of class officers after elections this week. We are looking forward to their leadership.
Football season begins tonight with the scrimmage against Heritage Hills. Mr. Kendall wanted me to remind all students to download their activity pass. Instructions are listed in the athletic section. The annual Band Summer Showcase will take place this Sunday August, 18, from 12-4pm. Check out our next state championship band performing. The thirty plus clubs at JHS hosted callout meetings during homeroom this week. Ask your students what they signed up for and remind them it is never too late to join. Mr. Jochum and Mr. Uebelhor would like to invite all parents to the guidance evening on Wednesday, August 21st. Parents of freshmen and sophomores will meet in the auditorium at 6 followed by junior and senior parents at 7. In the guidance department section we have included information about the School testing day on October 9th. Each grade will have different activates that day. The State of Indiana has published its CTE career guide and I have attached the link. Check out some of the opportunities available for our Career and Technical Education students.
Anyone interested in joining Unified Flag Football should stop by room 205 by Friday to get information about the upcoming season. Join us this year for intramural volleyball! Games will be held on Wednesday evenings in September and October beginning at 6:00pm. You must have a team of at least 4 people to play. You can sign up outside of Mrs. Clark's room #411. Any questions, email Mrs. Clark aclark@gjcs.k12.in.us
School Pictures will be taken on Wednesday and Thursday during English classes. Proofs will be available online in the coming weeks. School fee statements will be mailed next week. Every student is billed for the handbook/activity fee at a cost of $35. There may be additional charges to those students who lost chargers or books and made class changes. These fees can be paid on My School Bucks or by sending a check/cash with your student to school. Thank you to German American Bank for their donation of hygiene products and cash to keep JHS supplied. Check out the JHS jobs board for employment opportunities. Enjoy the weekend and Go Cats.

BOOK BANTER FROM YOUR LIBRARY
LOADS of new books continue to arrive! Check the table near the center window for a new selection.
We’ve had a super first week in the library…more than 400 books have been checkout since the beginning of school!!
There are coloring sheets, a puzzle, word games, a checker/chess board, and loads of new bookmarks and books!
August “this or that” slips are available. You can also submit a slip stating your “favorite summer read” to the jar on the circulation desk, for the August prize drawing.
Housekeeping: lunch works a bit differently this year. If you wish to use the library during lunchtime this year, you must sign up in the library with sjburns by the end of homeroom. This must be done each day in order to use the library. The spaces are limited.
Additionally, you must have a yellow teacher issued hall pass to come into the library for any reason: printing, finding a book, studying, etc.
Finally, if there is a book you would like in the library, see me to add it to our wishlist.
Wishing you a most magical year!! Happy Reading!!
