Fact Fluency
Fact Fluency, or the ability to quickly and accurately recall math facts, is a crucial aspect of a student's mathematical journey. Students are taught strategies to learn their facts rather than rote practice for memorization. Students are encouraged to practice their math facts at home, in hopes this knowledge will transition from short-term to long-term memory. Your child's classroom teacher will be providing facts in upcoming weeks. Please consider practicing facts at home with your child.
Health Curriculum Parent Permission/Opt-Out Form
All parents/guardians of students enrolled in the Health Education Curriculum (grades: PreK-8, Health 1 and Health 2) should complete and submit the electronic Parent Permission/Opt-Out Form for the 2024- 2025 school year.
Once the electronic form is submitted, no additional follow-up will occur. If you do not complete the electronic form within the response window, three attempts will be made by your child’s teacher by phone, email, and/or written communication to receive a response. If no response is received, your child will automatically take part in the Maryland State Department of Education Family Life and Human Sexuality Unit in the Health Education class/course.
If your child enrolls in the Health Education class/course after the electronic selection timeframe has closed or, as the parent/guardian, you would like to change your response, please contact your child’s school for a paper copy.
An email will be sent to the primary parent/guardian listed for all students in the County every Friday. Note: if the primary guardian does not have an email address the system will send the email to the secondary guardian contact. The online form closes at 11:59 p.m. on September 15, 2024.
News from the Cafeteria
Please Apply for Meal Benefits
Eligible households should still apply for meal benefits at www.myschoolapps.com. One application can be completed for the entire household when all members are listed. Parents may apply for benefits at any time during the school year. Eligibility for meal benefits may help families receive additional resources such as free internet service, field trip fee waivers, and P-EBT benefits so it is important to still apply if you meet eligibility guidelines.
Meal benefits from the 2023-2024 school year will expire on October 14, 2024.
Helping to Feed All in Carroll County
Families experiencing financial difficulty can apply at any time during the school year for free or reduced-price meals at www.myschoolapps.com. Despite this, many families who do not qualify have challenges making ends meet and charge meals at school. If you would like to donate to reduce this burden on families at your child’s school or any school with a need in Carroll County here is how you can make an unpaid meal charge donation to CCPS.
At the School Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt at a particular school location can send a check made out to the school with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
At the Central Office Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt can send a check made out to Carroll County Public Schools with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
Checks must be mailed to:
Karen Sarno, Food Services, Carroll County Public Schools

News from the Health Room
Welcome back! It has been a joy seeing all the students after summer break and meeting all the new students at Linton Springs. I wanted to go over some reminders regarding medications at school.
1. If your child needs medication at school, they must have a medication order form signed and completed by the doctor for the nurse to administer it. CCPS policy states:
"Students are not allowed to transport medications to or from school. Depending on the circumstances, violations of the Medication Procedures could be considered a violation of the Carroll County Public Schools Drug and Alcohol Policies and carry the same consequences as other drug violations. No medication will be administered by the school unless it is in the original container marked for the individual student and accompanied by the appropriate written permission and directions."
2. The following medications do not require a doctor’s order:
- Chapstick/lip balm
- Saline eye drops, wetting/lubricating eye drops, contact lens solution.
- Saline nasal spray
- Non medicated cough drops: they cannot contain menthol in them or state how a limit on how many you can have in a day. Cough drops with Pectin is permitted. Luden’s and Halls Breezers are one that have pectin only.
- Hand creams/lotions
- Individual waterless hand cleaners (hand sanitizer)
All medications must be brought in unopened containers, boxes, bottles including inhalers and EpiPens. Inhalers and EpiPens must be in a new box with the pharmacy label on them. All prescription medications must be in a bottle with the pharmacy label clearly attached and stating the medication, strength, dosage, and time to administer it.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the nurse at 410-751-3280.

News from the Music Room
Welcome to a new year of LSE music! Mrs. McCusker and Mr. Collins are forming our band, orchestra, and chorus ensembles. If your child is interested in participating in instrumental and/or choral music, and have not brought home an information sheet, please reach out so we can help enroll your child in these co-curricular opportunities. Fifth grade students who are interested in auditioning for the All-County Eisteddfod Chorus later this year must participate in the school level chorus. We look forward to working with your children!
Portable Electronic Devices
We recognize and respect that whether or not a student has a personally owned portable electronic device is a family decision. Students are not required or expected to bring their own device to school. Students may bring their personally owned devices to schools, as long as they abide by these regulations. Student misuse of his or her device shall result in disciplinary action. Families are expected to work collaboratively with school staff to support the implementation of these regulations. Parents who need to make emergency contact with their child during the school day shall contact the school’s main office.
Students in Elementary School
1. Devices must be silenced and stored (out of sight) upon entry to the school until exit from the school. It is highly recommended that elementary students do not bring personally owned portable electronic devices to school or on the school bus.
2. No portable electronic device shall be used to record, store, or transmit any type of image, sound, or video except for approved instructional activities utilizing CCPS-provided devices with the express permission of school staff.
3. The audible notification sounds and volume of personally owned portable electronic devices shall be silenced or directed through headphones on school buses. It is highly recommended that elementary students do not bring personally owned portable electronic devices to school or on the school bus.
4. Disciplinary action, as outlined in the Carroll County Public Schools student services manual, shall be taken when a student fails to follow the directions of a staff member regarding portable electronic devices or if a preponderance of evidence exists that the student has violated the terms of the acceptable use procedures and guidelines or other school policy.

CONSENT AND RELEASE
Permission to Photograph, Videotape, or Audiotape
Throughout the school year, the Carroll County Public School System frequently covers school activities and may use your child’s photograph, video image, or voice for educational, informational, or public relations purposes, with or without identification by name.
If you do not wish to have your child’s voice reproduced on tape or to have his/her image appear in such things as a video or a photograph, or on the school or school system website or social media, please notify the school principal in writing. It is assumed that parents and guardians consent to their children being audiotaped, photographed, videotaped, or having their image placed on a school website or social media by the school system, unless such notification is received.
There are also occasions when the media cover certain school events (such as when a government leader visits a school). If you do not wish to have your child’s name or likeness published by the media, you should address your concerns directly to the school involved so that the media is so advised. Please be advised that the school system has no control over the media when they are covering activities such as sporting events and musical programs that are open to the public.
Use of Student Work on Websites or in Publications
There may be times throughout the year when the Carroll County Public School System wishes to display student work on school websites, social media, or in publications. If you do not wish to have your child’s art, poetry, writing, etc. appear on school websites, social media, or in publications, please notify the school principal in writing.
