A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
As we enter the final two weeks of school, we’re continuing to honour and celebrate both Pride Month and Indigenous Peoples Month. Each day, students are learning meaningful "Did You Know?" facts and important moments in history through our morning announcements. These moments spark great conversations and help build understanding, empathy, and a stronger sense of community.
Next week will be especially exciting and busy!
🎓 On Tuesday, June 17th, we will celebrate our Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony.
🎉 On Friday, June 20th, we will host our Indigenous Peoples Day celebration. We are honoured to welcome the Young Wolves from Stz'uminus First Nation, who will share traditional songs and dances with our school. Following the performance, all students will enjoy a hotdog lunch provided by the school.
Thank you for your continued support as we wrap up this school year with celebration, reflection, and community.
We are Kind....
We are Compassionate...
We are LIS...

Ladysmith Intermediate School presents...
its 3rd annual AIR BAND!!!
On Monday, June 23rd in the LIS gym, for one evening show starting at 6:00, we are having a choreographed lip sync challenge of epic proportions! Students have chosen songs from a playlist of 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s music!
Enjoy lip-synced dance performances? We have those! Looking for lip-synced band performances with electric guitars, keyboard and drums (well… at least pretending we’re playing the instruments)? We have those too!
Come join us for a fun night of music and air-band-awesomeness as our students perform some of the decades’ greatest hits for you! (I mean, kind of….it IS Air Band after all.)
Ticket order forms to get seats for the evening show were given to students who were interested today (Friday). If your child did not bring an order form home, either get them to ask Mr. Michalopoulos on Monday for one or download and print one from the link below. Ticket order forms are due this coming Thursday the 19th,
For any information about Air Band or anything drama related, please go to Mr. M's drama website.

Tickets will be sent home on Friday, June 20th.
Rock on!!! (insert air guitar riff here)
School Spirit Days
Spirit Days – Let’s Celebrate the End of the School Year in Style!
As we approach the final weeks of school, we’re turning up the fun with Spirit Days! These themed days are a great opportunity for students and staff to show their creativity, build community, and make lasting memories together.
Here’s what’s coming up:
-
June 16 – Twin Day:
Grab a friend (or two!) and dress alike. Whether you match from head to toe or just coordinate your accessories, we can't wait to see your twin-tastic looks!
-
June 18 – Decades Day:
Travel back in time by dressing up from your favourite decade! From the swingin’ 40s to the grungy 90s, we encourage everyone to get creative and represent the fashion, flair, or pop culture of the past.
-
June 26 – Beach Day:
Bring on the summer vibes! Wear your beachy best—Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, sun hats, or flip-flop flair (just make sure it’s school-appropriate and safe for play).
Let’s make the last few weeks of school unforgettable! We can’t wait to see all your amazing outfits!
Staff Clinch 6th Straight Victory in Annual Football Game!
The annual Staff vs. Grade 7 Students football game was another thrilling event filled with school spirit, laughter, and friendly competition. In a dominant display, the staff secured their sixth consecutive win with a final score of 87-0.
Despite the scoreboard, the Grade 7 students showed determination, teamwork, and great sportsmanship throughout the game. This tradition is one that our Grade 7s eagerly anticipate each year, and it’s always a highlight of the end-of-year celebrations.
Thank you to all the players and fans who made this event such a fun and memorable afternoon!

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
