It’s hard to believe we are nearly half way through Term 4! There has been a great vibe around the school as our students have been engaged in some rich and exciting learning opportunities and as we head toward everything that the end of the year holds.

Below are a few messages about things going on around the school. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns about anything, please ask so we can give you all relevant information. Have a great week!

Last week, I sent out an email about our School Advisory Council and P&F AGMs. It would be great to see you there if you are able to make it. These will be held on Tuesday 22 November at 6:30pm in the Barbier Hall.

I also called for nominations for both the School Advisory Council and P&F. Please give this some thought and if you feel you are in the position to offer your time in this way, fill in a nomination form. Also, if you know of anyone you think would suit one of the roles, please tap them on the shoulder and encourage them to nominate themselves. These are important roles and we rely on members of our community to offer their time and commitment to fill them.

Our amazing and dedicated staff were acknowledged in a special way on World Teachers’ Day and our incredibly generous P&F put on a delicious morning tea for us! A huge thank you goes out to all involved in the morning tea and to everyone who went out of their way to recognise our staff on the day. We are truly blessed here at St Paul’s!

Our Kindy and Pre-Primary students had a fantastic morning with their grandparents to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. Fr Mariusz joined us as we began with a prayer in the hall together. Our students then took their grandparents to participate in all sorts of fun activities and play down near their classrooms. Thanks to our Early Childhood staff for their efforts to bring everyone together for this occasion.

Earlier this term, I shared some snippets of the feedback about our staff that we received from the Quality Catholic Education School Review of St Paul’s last term. Below are some comments from the review panel’s report about the quality education that we deliver at St Paul’s. These are a testament to the amazing dedication, skill and professionalism of our staff.

As I noted in the last newsletter, Cristian and Isabella from Year 6 won Young Historian Silver awards in the National History Challenge this year. They have since attended the presentations, which were held at St Mary’s Anglican School, and received their award. It was great to hear about all of the different entries that won awards. We are very proud of them and their achievements in the National History Challenge!

As most people will be aware, the difficulty with keeping the grass next to the Barbier Hall growing has been an ongoing issue with a long history. As a school, we are incredibly grateful to Steve, our groundsman, for the endless hours of work and variety of things he has tried to get the grass growing as well as we can in the conditions that it is attempting to grow in over the past few years. At the moment, as a result of numerous factors, there is a large sandy section in the grass. We have been working closely with the City of Stirling on the issue as a significant section of the area is City of Stirling land and they manage the trees which contribute to some of the problems with growing the grass. Recently, the City of Stirling pruned the large trees right back so we are now getting some sunlight through to the grass, which is important. I am currently in discussions with a Councillor and the Manager of Parks and Sustainability from the City of Stirling to work together to find the best solution and the most appropriate type of grass with the best potential to grow in the conditions in that area. I am hopeful that we will see a solution to the issue with the grass in the not too distant future. I would like to acknowledge the support of one of our parents, Mr Talevski, for his support in helping us link with the most appropriate people to help find a solution.

Please make sure you have seen the messages sent out about the gathering at the grotto and Remembrance Day Service this week. On Tuesday at 10:00am, we have a whole-school gathering at the grotto as we now have the plaque installed. On Friday, we have our Remembrance Day Service straight after recess at 10:50am. Parents are welcome to join us for these events.
