SHMS Family Newsletter

Principal's Message
Greetings SHMS Community!
As another busy week wrapped up at Stuart-Hobson our operations team finished sealing and mailing Term 1 report cards home to families and we hope that you receive them in time for the upcoming holiday break.
As I shared with our students at our school opening assembly, my large extended family always got together at a local community center (nobody's house was large enough for us all) for Thanksgiving when I was growing up. After dinner, my grandparents mandated that my 20+ cousins and I stand up one at a time for "show and tell" in front of all of the attendees. We were expected to tell everyone about our grades and any activities that we were participating in at school. Reporting anything mediocre or poor guaranteed that you would be on everyone's radar and a person of focus at every other family event until the next year's Thanksgiving and show and tell opportunity. I learned early that the only way to avoid ribbing and other insufferable attention from all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins was to make sure that I had good grades and a list of extra-curriculars to tell everyone about.
While I am not making a plug for my family's version of "show and tell", I do hope that you all are able to convene with important people in your lives this week and that your students have nothing but outstanding achievements to brag about. Our students do have plenty to brag about and I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to work with them, our educators here, and your families as we work to to lead this school community to excellence.
I hope everyone has a rejuvenating holiday weekend and is excited about all of the events on the horizon as we round out the calendar year upon our return. Please see below for updates and a calendar to get you through the next two weeks of school.
Warm regards,
Eric Fraser
Principal

DC Advanced Technical Center Community Engagement Survey (12/6)
DC CTE will launch a Ward 8 Advanced Technical Center (ATC) in SY 25-26. DC CTE plans to add at least two new programs of study (POS) as part of the ATC expansion. The following five program
considerations have been identified based on local labor market data and input provided by the DC
healthcare industry.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Pharmacy Technician
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
• Radiologic Technologist & Technician
• Behavioral / Community Health
Based on these five options, DC CTE is seeking your feedback to understand which of these proposed programs are of greatest interest to the community. Parents, please complete this brief survey linked here. This survey should take less than 5 minutes and will close
on Friday, December 6. Additional resources and information are available here.
