Cell Phone Policy
The King George County School Board adopted a new cell phone policy for this school year. All students will be required to have cell phones and other communication devices turned off and stored during the school day. Cell phones cannot be used or accessed during the instructional day. This includes lunch, class change, and all classes.
Cell phone use is still permitted before and after school and on school buses.
Transition Day
Monday, August 12, 2024 is a transition day. This is a school day for just students in kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grades to help learn a new school and new schedule. It is a full school day and students can arrive and depart from school with their typical transportation of school bus or parent drop off and pick up.
The first day of school for all students is August 13, 2024.

School Times
There are new middle school and high school start and dismissal times. Bus routes are often shared between middle and high school. This year, buses will pick up and drop off at the high school first and then drive to the middle school second.
Preschool Programs
This year, the KGCS preschool programs are located at King George Elementary School. The Head Start program remains located at the School Board Office.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost for the preschool and Head Start programs.

Student meals will be provided at no cost for students at King George Elementary, Preschool Programs, and Head Start this year.
Helpful Information
When will I know my child’s teacher or class schedule?
Teachers and class schedules are available electronically through the Parent Portal. Beginning August 2, the electronic Parent Portal will be open with class schedule information. There are help guides for Parent Portal available for families on the division website.
How can I find out my child’s bus number and pick up or drop off times?
The versatrans e-link will be available to review bus stop information on Monday, August 5. If you notice that bus stop information needs to be updated, please contact the Transportation Department at 540-775-3870. If your home address has changed, please contact your child’s school to update the address.
How do I access my child’s lunch account information?
The meal payments platform will remain LINQ Connect. There is an app available by visiting either the Google Play Store or the Apple store or by logging in at: www.linqconnect.com
How do I apply for free or reduced school lunches for my child?
King George Elementary is a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school this year! All students at KGES will eat breakfast and lunch at no charge for the entire school year.
Students at all other schools will still need a meal application for assistance. If your family needs meal assistance, please visit the School Nutrition Department webpage and click “LINQ Connect: Family Portal and Payment Center." The application is available through LINQ Family Portal.
How do I complete Back to School paperwork for my child?
Families will use the online portal to complete all traditional back to school paperwork. The online forms will be available on July 15. This paperwork is required of all students annually. It is important to complete the information as soon as possible. There is a help guide available for Parent Portal Online Forms on the division website.
What are the required immunizations for my child to attend school?
To attend school in Virginia, all students will need these immunizations (or a completed religious or medical exemption certificate):
Kindergarten: 4-5 doses of DTAP, 4 doses of Polio, 2 doses of Hepatitis A, 3 doses of Hepatitis B, 2 doses of MMR, 2 doses of Varicella
Grade 7: Tdap, HPV*, Meningococcal ACWY
Grade 12: Meningococcal ACWY
*Note: parents or guardians may opt for their child not to receive the HPV vaccine
