Friendly Reminders
With the winter months comes darkness and slick roadways. As such, we ask that you practice extra caution when driving, especially on our campus grounds. Please review and follow arrival and dismissal procedures to keep our students, families, and staff safe.
The speed on campus is 10 mph and we ask that you keep a careful watch for students from both JHS and HWD campuses as they walk and ride their bikes to school.
School Arrival and Drop-Off: If you are dropping off your student(s) for school in our upper lot, please do so by pulling/stopping alongside our curb/sidewalk in our upper lot. Pull as far up to the front door as possible. Please avoid dropping your student(s) off in the middle of the parking lot aisles because it causes an unsafe situation for our students and those that are simply trying to park. Again, for the safety of our entire school community, please drop off along the curb ONLY and do not use the parking lot aisles for drop off location.
School Dismissal and Pick Up: If you are picking up your student(s) for school in our upper lot, please do so by pulling/stopping alongside our curb/sidewalk in our upper lot. Pull as far up to the front door as possible. Please avoid picking up your student(s) in the middle of the parking lot aisles because it causes an unsafe situation for our students and those that are simply trying to park. Again, for the safety of our entire school community, please pick up students along the curb ONLY and do not use the parking lot aisles for your pickup location.
Activity Bus: Please note that the activity bus runs Monday through Thursday for those students who regularly ride the bus. The Activity Bus leaves our lower lot at approximately 4:15 pm for those students who are in after school clubs and/or athletics. Please be aware that the one Activity Bus drops students off in multiple locations therefore students may arrive home later than normal.
Signing your student out for the day? If you need to pick up your student during the school day, please park in our upper lot and proceed to our front office in the main lobby. Please remember that photo identification is required as part of this process. Your student will be called and will meet you in our office.
Enjoy the upcoming winter break with family and friends and see you all back in 2025!
In partnership,
Laura Wellington

From the Assistant Principal
Dear Heatherwood Families and Students,
As we say goodbye to November, I hope this newsletter finds you well and excited for the month of December ahead. December is a time for reflection and community, and we have many events and activities to look forward to. Here's what's happening at Heatherwood Middle School this month:
Winter Sports Season: Support Our Student-Athletes!
The Winter 1 sports season is well underway, and our student-athletes have been putting in hard work on the field and court. This month, we encourage you to come out and cheer for our teams in their upcoming games, including:
- Boys and Girls Soccer
- Home Games at Everett Memorial Stadium: December 10th, 12th, and 19th
- Boys Basketball
- Home Games: December 2nd, 4th, 11th, 17th, and 18th
- Girls Volleyball
- Home Games: December 9th, 12th, and 19th
Your presence at the games makes a difference and shows our students that we’re all part of their success. Remember to represent Heatherwood with pride and follow our SOAR values — Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect — when attending games. Let’s make the stands a place of support and positivity!
Sportsmanship Reminder: Let’s Keep It Positive!
As we enjoy the excitement of the games, we kindly remind everyone to demonstrate good sportsmanship. Please respect the players, coaches, and officials, and remember that the way we cheer and behave sets the tone for our community. We ask that everyone stays in designated seating areas, uses positive language, and helps create a welcoming environment for all.
Additionally, once students arrive at a game, they are expected to stay for the duration of the event. If a student leaves the facility, they will not be allowed to re-enter. This helps ensure the safety and enjoyment of all spectators and maintains a positive atmosphere throughout the event.
Safety First: Shelter in Place Drill
Safety is always a top priority, and this month we will be conducting a Shelter in Place drill. This drill is an important part of our safety preparedness plan, helping students and staff practice how to respond in the event of an emergency where we need to stay inside the building and secure our environment. Students will be briefed on the procedure beforehand, ensuring they are ready to act swiftly and calmly if needed.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you, and go Hawks!
