Dear Bobcat Families,

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Spring Break.

This week, BJH students will take the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) and the Panorama Survey. Please click HERE to access the link for survey permission slips. Survey permission slips will were sent home prior to Spring Break. Click HERE to access the parent information letter and resources related to both surveys. All permission slips were due by Thursday, March 28, 2024. We will assume that those students who do not return a signed permission slip have parent consent.

This week students will take the iReady Diagnostic #3. The math diagnostic will be administered Monday and Tuesday and the Reading diagnostic will be administered on Wednesday and Thursday. Students who do not take the assessment on the designated days will participate in make-up testing the week of April 15-19.

The incoming 7th grade parent orientation night will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium. This date has been added to accommodate parents who were unable to attend the previous two sessions. All incoming 7th grade families received a copy of the presentation via email.

We are excited about Open House this Thursday. There will be items available for the silent auction. In addition, our PTO will have food trucks available for families to purchase food. The event is from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Don't forget to stop by our book fair in the library.

Lastly, I want to remind all families that there is minimum day dismissal on Friday, April 12th. All students are dismissed at 12:40 p.m.

A solar eclipse is expected to occur on Monday, April 8th. It is set to begin at 10:06 a.m., peak at 11:22 a.m. and end at 12:22 p.m. Wile is is calculated that less than half the sun will be obstructed by the moon over Brea at its peak, students and teachers may still want to engage in observations of this celestial event.

Teachers and students will be reminded Monday morning during daily announcements that they must have appropriate solar eclipse eyewear to participate in viewing the eclipse. BJH students and staff are discouraged from participating in viewing the eclipse without the appropriate solar eclipse eyewear. Without the proper eyewear eclipse watching activities need to be limited to the pinhole activity. While a permission slip is required for all other solar eclipse viewing activities, the pinhole activity does not require a permission slip.

Students and staff will be reminded to not look directly at the sun at any time during the eclipse. Campus security and the administrative team will be vigilant in their observations of students during this time frame to redirect students should they be observed looking directly at the sun in an attempt to observe the solar eclipse.

8th grade parents: Please click the link below to access information about the 8th grade Knott's Berry Farm trip. Only students who qualify may attend. Should your student not be able to attend, their name will be on the ineligibility list and they will not be able to purchase a ticket/transportation. If your student is removed from the trip due to not meeting criteria after ticket purchase, they will not attend and can use the ticket purchased for another day. No cash refunds will be provided.

Congratulations to our students who made the 3rd quarter principal's list. These students received a certificate, pencil and a delicious donut on March 28th. Way to go!
