All Saints’ Day & All Souls’ Day
November 1st
All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1st. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. The saints also give us a model of holiness. The charity they lived on Earth lives on. The witness of their love and sacrifice was not just a one time act in history. Rather, charity is living and continues to have an effect for the good. Therefore, the charity and witness of the saints lives on and affects our lives. This charity in their lives creates a bond with us, a communion. It enables us to love them, admire them and want to follow their example. It is this, coupled with their continuing intercession, that establishes a powerful bond of love and union with us.
November 2nd
All Souls’ Day is a holy day set aside for honouring the dead. All Souls’ Day, which is observed on November 2nd, is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven. Catholics believe that through the prayers of the faithful on Earth, the dead are cleansed of their sins so they may enter into heaven.
Feast of All Souls Prayer for The Holy Souls Heavenly Father, in union with the merits of Jesus and Mary, We offer to You for the sake of the poor souls all the satisfactory value of our works during life, as well as all that will be done for us after death. Amen.
St. Jude acknowledges that we are on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Mississauga is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
Today, the city of Mississauga, is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to work on this land.
Tkaronto (meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing”), is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to work on this land.

The Virtue for the month of November is Conscience
A person of Conscience:
Chooses to do the right thing, even when it is hard.
Takes time to think and pray before making decisions.
Knows that their actions and decisions affect all those around them.
Thinks of others before themselves.
Therefore I do my best always to have a clear conscience toward God and all people. (Acts 24:16)
Principal's Message
Extracurricular activities continue to keep staff and students busy. A huge thank you to Mr. Palmieri, Mr. Silva, Mrs. Lanzalone and Mr. Embrack for coaching the Junior Volleyball teams and the Cross-Country team. The Intermediate Volleyball teams, coached by Mr. Protomanni and have begun practicing in preparation for the upcoming pod tournament in November. Mrs. Coulas, with the help of staff, has already organized several successful events - Halloween Dance and activities, Thanksgiving Food Drive and Pumpkin Decorating events. On October 28th, the community of St. Jude had the priviliage of hearing the St. Jude choir, under Mme. Markic's direction during our St. Jude Feast Day Mass and Celebration. We were very blessed to have them share their many gifts with us during our St. Jude Feast Day Celebration led by Father Andrew Cyruk from St. Francis Xavier Parish.
The first week in November is Treaties Recognition Week and was introduced to recognize and understand the importance of treaty education, helping everyone in Ontario learn about treaties. Treaties negotiated in Ontario over the past 250 years are the foundation of the relationship between governments and Indigenous peoples. They represent a mutual commitment to building a prosperous future for everyone. Historical treaties are important to the ongoing relationship between the Crown and First Nations and are still relevant today. By building understanding of these agreements, we are moving towards reconciliation with Indigenous people.
November 8th is marked as Indigenous Veterans Day. For years, Canadians have set aside the 11th Day of November to remember the sacrifices of soldiers who fought for Canada and the British Commonwealth in global conflicts that took place in foreign lands. Most Canadians are not aware of the contributions made by Indigenous Warriors in those military campaigns, nor of the crucial role they played during the War of 1812 -- the only war ever fought on Canadian soil. Every year on November 11 – Remembrance Day, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
Rememberance Day 2024
Our flag is being flown at half-staff on Remembrance Day in recognition of those who served, and those who continue to serve our country. We especially remember those who gave their lives in service. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Electronic Delivery of Progress Reports
Electronic Delivery of Progress Reports As we approach the time of year when Progress Reports are distributed, we would like to remind you of the change in how we will be delivering student Report Cards, as shared with you in June. We have transitioned to an electronic delivery system. This means that your child's Report Cards, including the November 12th Progress Report (Gr. 1-8) / Communication of Learning (FDK) will be sent directly to your child’s registered DPCDSB student email account. To access the report cards, you will need your child's student number. Their student number is their email address. For example: 123456789@educ.dpcdsb.org. This is the same number that they use to log into their computers at school. Your child's student number is recorded in the front of their agenda for your reference. For FDK students, please check their communication bag. All progress report cards will be emailed to families by 3:00 p.m. on November 12th. Thank you for your patience as we work through this new process to enhance communication between the school and our valued parents and guardians. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.
Scheduling Parent/Teacher Conferences
Dufferin-Peel CDSB has purchased an online booking system for parent interviews. Parents/caregivers will receive an email with the event code. Using this event code, parents can make, change or cancel their own appointments. Parent requested interviews will be open for booking on November 12th at 4:00 p.m., once parents have had an opportunity to view their child’s Grade 1-8 Progress Report / FDK Communication of Learning.
The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations
Distinctive expectations for graduates of Catholic schools are determined and shaped by the vision and destiny of the human person emerging from our faith tradition. This Christian anthropology or world view, reveals the dignity and value of the person. Our tradition tells us God creatively and lovingly calls each of us into the wonder of life, sustaining us by the power of the Holy Spirit, throughout the human journey, into life eternal. We acknowledge that the journey includes moments of brokenness and sin. We recognize in the person of Jesus, the risen Christ, the human face of God sharing our life in order to heal us of our brokenness and liberate us from sin. This Christian vision of the human journey is best understood within the context of relationship. It is accomplished in community, in solidarity with brothers and sisters in the Church and beyond. Catholic education views human life as an integration of body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in this vision, Catholic education fosters the search for knowledge as a lifelong spiritual and academic quest. The expectations of Catholic graduates, therefore, are described not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but in terms of values, attitudes and actions. Vision of the Learner - The Graduate is expected to Be: · A discerning believer formed in the Catholic Faith community who celebrates the signs and sacred mystery of God's presence through word, sacrament, prayer, forgiveness, reflection and moral living. · An effective communicator who speaks, writes and listens honestly and sensitively, responding critically in light of gospel values. · A reflective, creative and holistic thinker who solves problems and makes responsible decisions with an informed moral conscience for the common good. · A self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner who develops and demonstrates their God-given potential.

SCHOOL REMINDERS
“Oral health is an important part of a child’s overall health. Peel Public Health is providing free dental
screening, as required by the Ontario Ministry of Health, for students in grades JK, SK, 2, 7 on November
15, 2024. Please note that dental screening may be completed earlier than the expected end date. A
dental screening is a quick assessment by a registered dental hygienist who will take a look inside your
child's mouth. A separate, sterilized mouth mirror is used for each child. It identifies children who may be in need of dental care. After the dental screening, a form with the results will go home with every child screened. If a child is identified with a dental condition requiring immediate dental treatment, the parent may be contacted by a dental staff member. A re-screening may be required. Complete the form you received from the school to indicate whether or not you want your child to participate in the free dental screening.”

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CORNER: THE POWER OF WATER!
Learning potential increases through small, frequent drinks of water throughout the day. Water is important for almost every process that takes place in the body. Drinking water regularly through the school day helps to:
Improve learning and concentration.
Prevent tooth decay.
Reduce feelings of thirst, tiredness and irritability.
Prevent short and long term health problems.
We can get H20 from beverages and food. Our bodies absorb water from beverages and from foods like yogurt, soup and watery fruits and vegetables
