Estimada comunidad de Woodcrest,
I hope everyone is staying warm! With the “feels like” temperature dropping below -10°F this week, we’ve had indoor recess to keep our students safe and comfortable. Hopefully, the weather will warm up soon so our students can enjoy outdoor recess again!
A quick reminder: there will be no school on Friday, January 17, and Monday, January 20. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 21. On Friday, our staff will participate in a professional learning day focused on enhancing our understanding of the science of teaching reading and deepening student engagement. Monday is a federal holiday.
The professional learning opportunities this year have impacted our teaching practices in many positive ways. As I visit classrooms and walk through the hallways, I see our teachers implementing new strategies and reflecting thoughtfully on their approaches to literacy and engagement. It’s exciting to witness this continuous growth, and I’m eager for the learning ahead and its impact on our students’ learning experiences.
Thank you for your support in fostering a community of learners, both in and out of the classroom.
Stay warm, and have a wonderful week!
In partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal
When does my child need to stay home from school?
As a reminder, students who have vomited, had diarrhea, or a fever must remain home until they have been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication. How do we stay healthy? The best defense against germs is to wash hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. Practice with your child at home by picking a song to hum while washing - Twinkle, Twinkle and the ABCs are fun examples.

Or, maybe you have a friend or neighbor looking ahead to a kindergarten start in the fall. We know it is exciting and a little scary to send a child into their school experience for the first time. How do you know if they’re ready? We asked our early childhood and elementary education experts for their insights on kindergarten readiness. They also shared ways families can help support their child’s development for success in school. Check out their insights and feel free to share with a friend or neighbor. See 5 Ways to Know Your Child Is Ready for Kindergarten.
