Pine Creek Families,
May is here, and with it comes so many exciting events and celebrations at Pine Creek! As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we are grateful for your continued support and partnership. Thank you for being such an important part of our Pine Creek community!
M-STEP Testing: M-STEP testing is in full swing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students! This important test is given to measure student progress in the areas of ELA, math, for 3rd-5th grade students, and also science and social studies for our 5th grade students. Please encourage your students to try their best and get plenty of rest the night before a M-STEP test.
Panther Pathways: Our final session of Panther Pathways is going very well! We have a record number of students who are signed up for girls soccer, boys flag football, and craft club. Our students are also “Winning the Day” and giving their best effort in the classrooms and at school in addition to on the sports fields and enrichment clubs. We want to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Fairfield, Mrs. Panse, Miss Jarzambowski, Mr. Kegan, Miss Dee, and Mrs. Vriesema for helping with session 5 of Pathways!
Party At the Creek: Mark your calendars! On Thursday, May 15, from 5:30–7:00 PM, we will be hosting our big Party at the Creek event! Our Pine Creek staff and Pine Creek PTO members have been working behind the scenes with community partners to plan an evening filled with carnival games, the Bookmobile, a firetruck and patrol car, and so much more. This event has been a highlight for our PC families over the past few years, and we are excited for another great turnout!
Half Days: We have another half day of school coming up on Thursday May 8. This is due to the Tulip Time Kinder parade, and dismissal will be at 11:22 AM (which is earlier than our typical half day dismissal time). If you are downtown Holland watching the parade on May 8, be sure to wave to us as we walk by. We will also have a half day on Wednesday May 21 due to professional development for teachers. Thank you for picking up your students on time!
Before and After School Care: Next fall West Ottawa will offer families before school and after school care for students in grades Kinder-5th grade. The cost to families is $10 per day per student, with a 3 day session minimum required to register. Families interested can complete the registration and pay a fee of $50 per child. Families can click on the registration form to register and visit the West Ottawa website for more information.
Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-May 9! A simple note, email, or kind word can make a world of difference to our amazing teachers and staff. Taking a moment to recognize their hard work and dedication will truly make them feel valued and celebrated!
Happy May everyone!
Mrs. Rios
We are in the home stretch of the school year which means we are finishing up our last few skill units and prepping for our field day. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have begun our running program called Marathon Kids. Students in these grades are working on improving their running endurance. In May, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be completing their mile run assessment. Their goal is to complete a 1 mile run as fast as they can.
Kindergarten has been hard at work practicing their cardio drumming routine they will be performing at their graduation ceremony. All classes have been practicing Volleyball skills including underhand serve, bump (forearm pass) and a set. Our 4th and 5th grade classes learned a new game called Newcomb, which is a variation of a volleyball game.
Pine Creek Field Day is scheduled for Monday, June 2. More information on this fun day will be sent home sometime later in May.
