• EG-3116 – Student Cell Phone Possession and Use

Superintendent Chris Lennox noted policy EG–3116 was fulfilling a requirement of the Minnesota State Legislature to adopt a policy on student cell phone use, and was the result of a process through which community feedback was a key component of developing the policy. Darin Johnson, executive director of school management, provided an update on upcoming summer operations projects across the District. Major projects include completion of installing geothermal wells at Irondale High School, as well remodeling the art and science rooms. Highview Middle School will begin phase I installation of geothermal wells. The Turtle Lake library will begin a phased project that will include the installation of new bookshelves and carpeted flooring. Annual District-wide upkeep will also take place and will include interior painting, concrete repair and replacement, sealcoating and restriping parking lots, flooring projects, and replacing and repairing doors and windows. Johnson also thanked the custodians and buildings and grounds teams for their dedication to their work on all District buildings.

Darin Johnson, executive director of school management, shared an enrollment update for the 2025-26 school year. Johnson noted that the Board has passed a resolution at the November 12, 2024, School Board meeting opening enrollment to non-residents on a limited basis in grades K-5 for the 2025-26 school year. The current projected enrollment for 2025-26 is 11,228 students.

The Board discussed issues and updates related to AMSD/legislative, NE Metro 916 and shared updates on their activities and participation in events and committees around the District.
