IMPORTANT NEWS
JGHS WBC Update
Dear Eagle and Bulldog Families,
I hope this communication finds you and your family well. We had a great school year, culminating with our graduation ceremonies. Go Eagles and Bulldogs! On behalf of the staff, I want to thank you for your partnership.
The following update centers around our wellness resources. After careful consideration, we decided not to move forward with the renewal of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) Wellbeing Center (WBC) at John Glenn High School. The current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Wellbeing Center expires on June 30, 2024.
It is important to note that the Wellbeing Center MOU passed in 2022, since then we have added our own additional wellness resources that were not available previously, such as a full time NLMUSD Wellness Specialist and a Wellness Center at JGHS, just like we have at all our other middle and high schools in the District. Other school site resources include Restorative Practices training with Western Justice Center, JGHS Parent Ambassadors, increase in usage of the Eagle Exchange (thrift store), donation of supplies such as toiletries/clothing, and the peer leadership component of Margaret’s Place.
Lastly, we are exploring new additional alternative resources to enhance the support services available to our students. These include pursuing an MOU with Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse (LA CADA) to provide substance abuse education and continuing to support the Peer Health Advocate (PHA) program through our Wellness Center staffed by an NLMUSD Wellness Specialist at JGHS.
Thank you for continued support and have a great summer break.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Padilla, Ed.D.
Principal
