Each classroom in a Montessori school is a micro community... allowing children to be apart of an authentic society. This fosters respect for others, value of work, and a genuine understanding of how one can contribute to the larger good. The hope is that this translates to the outside world, where children have confidence to participate and be an active contributor in their communities.
I encourage you to be involved with your children! Check out this newsletter - there are SO MANY events coming up that are free or practically free - the pool party, the art show at the library, and Culver's Night. This gives your children a chance to 'practice' how to be in community with others outside of school and their homes. I think our world will be a better place if we prepare the next generation to live in harmony and recognize each other's humanity. It starts with modelling how to do this - and that is our work as parents and Montessori educators!
Have a fantastic weekend! I am off to Vancouver Island to celebrate my son's Senior Gallery Show from the University of Victoria - he graduates later this spring. The painting above is one of his latest. I look forward to participating and contributing to his community for a few days!

Looking for Donations
We are looking for donations for some up coming projects:
* Used T-shirts size Large or X-Large (fun prints and colors are encouraged!) All students will be making bags on Earth Day. They are needed by Friday, April 18.
* Ribbon & Yarn (odds and ends welcome) This is needed by Friday, May 2.
* Trifold Poster Boards (48" x 36") each Upper Elementary Students needs one for a project. They are needed by Friday, May 2. Example
