Mission Statement
St. Maria Goretti is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School aims to form what is True, Good, and Beautiful in the souls of our young disciples of Christ.
Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
On Monday, we will honor our Veteran's with a Veterans Day performance at 9:00 AM. Please join us if you are able. SMG will be participating in the City of Arlington's First Veteran's Day parade. Families who are going to participate will be allowed to pick up their children on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM to head to the parade. The school will remain in session for the full day. The parade starts are 4:00 PM which will allow for families to make it to the parade route in time for the parade.
I will be off campus for a professional development on Wednesday afternoon, so rosary group is canceled.
As the holidays are getting closer, if you have a gently used Christmas tree you are getting rid of, we are looking for 4 Christmas trees for the school. We welcome your donation.
Mark your calendars for the iGiveCatholic event on Tuesday, December 3, 2024! We will begin the evening with our Advent program in the church at 6:30 PM. Following the program we will have Christmas cookies and hot chocolate in the cafetorium.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

The Chickens are Home!
The chicken coop is complete. There are now four lovely ladies residing in the coop. The students are working on names for them, we will be voting on them next week. I am still looking for people who can help with the care of the chickens over the weekend and during Thanksgiving break. Please email me if you would like to help.

We will be joined by the Knights of Columbus and the SMG Cheer Squad. Those riding or walking on the float must be at the staging area by 3:00 PM. Beginning at 2:00 PM, we will dismiss students participating in the parade from the front office. If you are taking a child that is not your own, please be sure that the parents have communicated with the front office that they have permission to leave with you. The parade begins at 4:00 PM. I have attached all of the information I have received from the City to help you plan to attend. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Attention 5th & 6th Grade Performing Arts - Date Change
Your talented 5th and 6th Grade Performing Arts students are working hard on their Epic Ensembles! Once we started working through our material, I noticed a need to add additional skits so that each student had a greater opportunity to shine. We are now working on six short selections full of humor and fun. The additional texts will take more time to rehearse so we are changing our performance date to accomodate. Originally we were slated to perform before Thanksgiving Break at 9 a.m. on November 21st. We will now be performing before Christmas Break on Thursday, December 19 at 2 p.m. You are still invited to attend, and we will record for those who cannot make it. This performance is their final test grade for the first semester. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

TERRIFIC TROJANS
SMG students receive a Terrific Trojan sticker when they are "caught" being safe, responsible and respectful. After wearing the sticker during the day, the Terrific Trojan places it on the hallway bulletin board. We love seeing how full the bulletin board becomes by the end of the school year.

To celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week, after Mass on Wednesday November 6th, SMG students wore different religious order costumes to represent various hierarchies within the Church. Many thanks to Sister Mary Monico for coordinating this informative presentation.
Garden Club
A Chinese proverb says "Life begins the day you plant a garden". Mr. Gleason is helping our students realize the joy and rewards of gardening. This week, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Halley, and Mrs. Austin-Nobles helped students plant seeds during recess which they took home with them to enjoy. Many thanks to these devoted volunteers for "planting" the love of gardening in our students.
