Staying Connected
June 18, 2024
From the Principal
Dear WES Families,
As we have wrapped up our school year together we all reflect back on some fantastic memories that have been made at Woodland School. As Principal I am so appreciative of the unwavering support and care that all faculty and staff demonstrates each and every day. In addition, the love and regular support from our parents/guardians has been invaluable in helping our students learn and grow in our learning community.
Recently over the past few weeks, we have concluded our benchmark testing with both ELA and Mathematics. I am very proud to report that our students across our school have demonstrated growth and learning in both content areas. Thank you to both our teachers and also our families for providing all the necessary instruction and necessary supports when needed.
The last few weeks of school have been a busy place for our staff and students. We had a very enjoyable field day on June 5th where I know all the students had a blast getting to create memories with their classmates. Special thank you to Mr. Archambeault for his coordination and leadership around this special end of year event. In addition, thank you to PAWS PTO and all of our parent volunteers for the donations and support during field day. We also held our Preschool Graduation on Friday, June 14th. This event was well attended and this special event coordinated directly by our Preschool staff was not only filled with songs, but so much love and joy through the entire graduation event. Thank you to all of our Preschool families for their attendance at this event. It was truly special.
We look forward to already beginning our plans for next school year and we are also excited about the recent addition of Ms. Kayla Brady, Assistant Principal at Woodland. I know she is very excited to get to know our staff, students, and families of WES. We will be having a meet and greet with Ms. Brady later in August, be on the lookout for communication around this event in the coming weeks!
Summer Reading Opportunity
Our students have continued to grow with their love of reading and to encourage this activity through the summer our staff have put together a recommended activity for our students to participate in through the summer months. The overall goal is to simply – Just keep reading and to love books! Please find the attached letter for the Summer Reading Activity below in this Newsletter.
Thank you for your support and your close partnership through this school year. Have a wonderful and restful summer vacation. We look forward to seeing you in late August.

Woodland Summer Reading 2024
Happy summer, Woodland families and readers! Summer is a great time to relax and enjoy a good book! Studies have shown that children who read independently, or are read to during the summer months, retain more of what was learned during the school year. A fun activity to encourage summer reading is our WOODLAND BOOKWORM! For each book read this summer, our readers are asked to color in one circle of their bookworm, found on the back of this letter. Please return this paper when school resumes at the end of August. Each reader who participates will have a circle with his or her name on it placed in the library. Together we will grow a loooong bookworm and it will be a fun and colorful representation of the wonderful books our readers enjoyed over the summer! Below you will find a list of suggested authors, and you may already have some of your own. Remember, our local libraries are a great place to borrow, explore, and learn!

Girls on the Run!
The girls in Mrs. Saltmarsh’s 1st grade class had the opportunity to learn about a program that is offered to 3rd-5th grade students at Powder Mill called GIRLS ON THE RUN! The middle school girls came over to inform the 1st graders about this group. They shared what they do; journal writing, activities, positivity, running, and a service project. The runners made each 1st grader a kindness rock, a beaded bracelet, a positive quote card, and a motivational card! They ended their time together with a positive cheer. The 1st grade girls were so happy and excited. A special thank you to the group’s leader, Becky McAvoy, for setting this meeting up!
