Connecting. Achieving. Preparing.
Seniors Take One Last Bus Ride Back to Their Elementary School!
The 2024 graduates boarded buses one last time for a trip back to their elementary school where their education journey began. Students paraded through the hallways, connected with their former teachers, and made an impression on our young learners.
Transitioning to the New School Year
From the end-of-the-year preschool celebrations and kindergarten graduations, to the annual fifth grade track and field day and the eighth grade dance, these end-of-the-school-year events mark transitions and milestones.
Making Connections with Families
It was a great night for making connections with our English Language Learners and their families. Students made sidewalk chalk art, had fun on the playground, and enjoyed ice cream at Golden Lake Park to celebrate the end of the school year.
Students and their families as well as staff attended American Indian Education's Fry Bread Taco Night at Golden Lake Park. Thank you for all you do for students and their families and for hosting this event!
Generating Power at Golden Lake Elementary
Students are learning first-hand about the power of solar at Golden Lake Elementary. Solar panels have been installed on the roof, giving students the opportunity to learn about clean energy technology and careers, and how solar reduces the school's energy costs. The solar power production can offset 60% of daily usage in the school on a good, solar day. To date, benefits include 42,614.52 pounds of CO2 emission saved which is equivalent to planting 322 trees. The project is a partnership with Ideal Energies. Golden Lake Elementary is one of 80 schools in 45 school districts across the state to receive grants through the Minnesota Department of Commerce Solar for Schools Program.
Congratulations to our Staff!
Centennial Schools recognized all staff during the month of May for the great work they are doing every day to make a difference in the lives of students. Employment milestones were celebrated at the Employee Recognition event, and three employees are named Employee of the Year: Emily Hjelle, special education teacher and former third grade teacher at Golden Lake Elementary; Becky Weiland, instrumental music teacher at Centennial High School, and Rich Williams, technology specialist at Centennial High School. Look for a listing of the milestones in the summer issue of The Observer.
