a message from Ms Parker...
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to the start of the Spring Term in 2025.
While the mornings are dark and there is still a chill in the air, we can start looking forward to days when the sun is shining.
That gloves, scarf and sunglasses type of weather!
Whilst the diary for this half term is a little quieter, please remember to check the school website to ensure you have all the key dates, particularly after the half-term break, when things get busier!
On my learning walk this morning, I was incredibly impressed by our children's attitude to learning. In all classes, children were focused and trying their best.
Our value this month is 'Trust'. During assembly, we will think about what trust is, how others earn our trust, and how we earn the trust of others. We will discuss the different people who it is safe to trust in various ways and why. We will also consider the concept of trust in the modern world.
A few reminders,
Please ensure your child/ren comes to school in the correct uniform. This should be a Bonneville blue or white T-shirt, sweatshirt, or fleece. Children are permitted to wear blue, grey, or black skirts, trousers, or leggings. Dark-coloured shoes or trainers are only permitted. Children should not wear football boots to school. I am also seeing lots of unnecessary accessories. All neck scarves must be worn for outdoor purposes, and headdresses must be worn for religious reasons only.
The school gates open at 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. start. Arrival anytime after 9:00 a.m. means your child/ren misses out, as the daily education timetable begins promptly at 9:01 a.m. It takes the children approximately 5 minutes to settle into their seats with the resources they need. A child who is 5 minutes late every day loses 25 minutes of learning in the same subject every week!
Please remember our community commitment to ensuring no child leaves Bonneville unable to read. We need your help to maximise reading opportunities for our children. Please volunteer to hear children read at our school if you have a spare hour.
Any amount of time is valuable time!
Our annual Parent Survey was released on Monday, January 13th. Please remember to share your views.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy year ahead.
Keep safe.

Curriculum Spotlight
This month we shine a light on vocabulary teaching and learning
This term, we have examined how we teach new vocabulary across our Federation and used research to review our teaching strategies and improve our approach.
Our schools explicitly teach vocabulary to secure clarity in word meaning, usage and context. This targeted approach fosters a structured learning environment where children gain confidence in applying new vocabulary effectively. Increasing their oracy, comprehension and writing skills.
We have used research to define our structure for teaching tiered words and words from the academic word list.
Tier 1- Basic, familiar, commonly used words
Tier 2- Often have multiple meanings, academic words
Tier 3- Subject-specific
Our teaching structure:
Monday - Introduce the word (repeat- phonics/syllables child-friendly definition and image)
Tuesday - Morphology/orthography /word class category
Wednesday - Synonyms and Antonyms
Thursday - Plural, spelling patterns and Etymology
Friday - Revision lesson and previous word multiple choice question
At home, you can use this structure to target your questions about the word of the week. For example, on Tuesdays, you can ask, 'What suffix can we add to the word, and how does it change the meaning?'
What Geography vocabulary is your child/ren learning?
Early Years-
Year 1- Population
Year 2- Compass
Year 3- cartographer
Year 4- observatory
Year 5- landscape
Year 6-classification
Please rienforce the learning by asking your child/ren to use this word in sentence.
Homework
Please help your child with spelling by looking at each word's spelling rules, sounds and patterns. Practising spelling daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word. In KS1, children must choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children must write a sentence for each word using neat, joined handwriting.
This will allow the children to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context, and practice their handwriting.
All spelling books must be given to the Class Teacher every Wednesday. This will ensure that your teacher has enough time to get the new spellings stuck in. Children will be doing a weekly spelling test in the back of their homework books so you can see how well they are doing.
Lost Property
For a smoother school experience, please remember to label all your child's belongings. This includes clothing, coats, bikes, and scooters. A clear label with the pupil's name and class greatly increases the chances of lost items being returned. This simple act also supports our year 6 'Lost Property Monitors' in their efforts to reunite found items with their owners.
FAB Update
1 hour per term!
We always need more help and support. A donation of one hour per term (that’s only three hours per year) of your time is all we ask, whether it be as a class rep, planning/hosting an event, or standing on a stall. Some parents very generously agreed to host an event like our amazing wreath-making workshop or the gathering of donations for our incredible raffles. Every parent is a member of FAB. I ask that everyone get involved.
Let's raise money together!
Parentkind – the charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative – all you have to do is:
1. Download the Asda Rewards app
2. Choose Bonneville as your primary school under Cash pots.
FAB will receive £1 for every new sign-up before 30 November. No purchase required.
Additional funds also raised if you scan in store or shop online at Asda.com, between 2nd September and 30th November 2024. Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to our Primary school.
Optional - The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage
Optional - Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase (see below)
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome...
3) You may raise your concerns with Ms Parker
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Ms Parker on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FAB but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
