

Horn Walter Burley Awards

Now Accepting Nominations
The Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, is accepting nominations for the Horn Walter Burley Awards. The R.A Horn Outstanding Achievement Award is named after the late Dr. Raymond A. Horn, Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction Emeritus, this prestigious award recognizes students' remarkable performance. The Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award is named in honor of the late Dr. Franklin B. Walter, Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1977 until 1991. With over 50 years of service as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Walter's leadership is evident in many of Ohio's quality educational initiatives and programs'. The Margaret M. Burley Outstanding Parent Award is named in honor of Margaret Burley, Executive Director Emeritus, of the Ohio coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD). This award was established in 2018 by the OCECD Executive Committee. The nominations will go to the OCECD Executive Committee for their review and final recipient chosen. Individuals are a parent of a child with disabilities who has demonstrated some or all of the listed characteristics below are eligible.

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge outstanding achievements of students with disabilities.

Franklin B Walter Outstanding Teacher/Staff Achievement Award
Margaret M. Burley Outstanding Parent Award Nominee
The Margaret M. Burley Outstanding Parent Award is presented annually in recognition of ONE Ohio parent of a child with disabilities who has demonstrated the following:
- Commitment to advocacy for their child and other children to receive quality educational services;
- Leadership in local, state, or national organizations;
- Initiatives to promote public awareness of issues affecting children with disabilities and their family;
- creation of innovative programming to improve services for children with disabilities.
Only ONE individual is selected as the winner each year and this is done by a committee of the OCECD Governing Board. This award is named in honor of Margaret Burley, Executive Director Emeritus, of the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD).
Nominations close March 14, 2025 for this award.

Winners selected from SST6 will be invited to attend the Awards ceremony in Columbus on June 10, 2025.
