CVSD Update June 2024
June 2024
Superintendent's Message
Hello CVSD Families and Caregivers,
The end of the school year and summer are finally here!
As we wrap up this school year, I want to personally express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support of our schools and our dedicated faculty and staff. Your active involvement in our districts, schools, and classrooms has been truly remarkable. Our students have flourished, and this is a testament to the strong partnership between you and the schools. Your support has been instrumental in their success.
With summer now upon us, I encourage everyone to enjoy the natural beauty outdoors, whether it’s in our brave little state, in New England, or somewhere else in the world. Summer is the best time to enjoy your favorite experiences and tackle new ones with loved ones. It is also the perfect opportunity for our students to relax, explore new hobbies, and keep their minds active through fun and enriching activities.
I am really excited about the upcoming graduation season. With one of my own graduating and another moving from eighth to ninth grade, it will be a busy rest of the week. These transitions are really exciting for families because they mark another milestone in the journey through education toward college, career, and life. At the same time, within that joy, there can be a small sentiment of loss because the transition moves the students a little further into adulthood. That feeling, though unexpected, arises from our love for our children, so do not worry about it surfacing. In fact, I think your child will really appreciate hearing that from you.
Please ensure you are aware of and take advantage of the meals CVSD provides this summer. It's a valuable service that can help ease the burden of meal planning during the summer break. Within this newsletter and the newsletters from the campuses, there is a link for you to sign up for meals. All meals will be distributed from St. Jude’s Church parking lot on Route 116 in Hinesburg on Mondays. Please check the CVSD website for distribution times.
As this is my last CVSD family newsletter, I want to express my gratitude for your support and partnership with our schools and our students. Serving within a dedicated and caring community like CVSD has been a privilege. Your commitment to our students' education and well-being has been truly inspiring, and together, we have been able to establish a long-term vision for the district. Thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of guiding our schools and for the collaborative spirit that has made our accomplishments possible. I am confident that CVSD will continue to thrive and support our students in their journey toward academic excellence, belonging, and joy.
Please stay tuned for updates about the upcoming school year, including important dates and events. We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our students back, refreshed with enthusiasm and prepared for new learning adventures.
Thank you again and have a wonderful and safe summer!
Rene

Summer EBT Program to Help Feed Kids
Vermont is among the first states to launch the new permanent Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (SEBT) program to help feed eligible school-aged children during the summer vacation months.
The benefit is $120 for the summer per eligible child. Learn more in this document and in this VTDigger article.
Introducing Stopfinder!
The Champlain Valley School District will use a new parent/guardian app, Stopfinder, for the upcoming school year. Stopfinder is the easy-to-use, secure, all-in-one app that allows you to have the most accurate information about your student’s bus schedule at any time from anywhere. You will be able to set up alerts to let you know when your bus is approaching for both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off. Only parents and guardians will be able to see the information for their student(s) unless they authorize others to see their student’s transportation information in the app.
The email address that is currently on file in Powerschool with the district will be used for Stopfinder setup this summer. This is another important reason for families and caregivers to update Powerschool forms when requested over the summer. Please contact your school’s main office to make a change to your primary email address any time you have a change.
Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Stopfinder will require
an invite and registration through the district prior to accessing your student’s transportation
schedule. Please watch for a Stopfinder invitation, which will be sent to your primary email
address, between August 15 th and August 20 th, 2024. Please contact me with questions at
gmarckres@cvsdvt.org.

Reminder: Powerschool Annual Forms Update
Please be on the lookout for the announcement and email about updating the annual forms in Powerschool. That should happen in mid-July.
Updating these forms is required annually for health information, emergency contact information, field trip permissions, and now, Stopfinder information too!
Let's Talk is Winding Down
As a cost-saving measure, we will discontinue the use of Let's Talk on our website at the end of June. Our wonderful IT team is developing a replacement. You can always connect with us. Watch for updates on our website with ways to reach out and connect.

4th Annual CVSD Pride Rally
Thank you to all the amazing youth and families that came out to support our own CVSD Pride Rally on Saturday, June 1st. It was a truly love filled event!
Safety is always an adult responsibility.
Unintentional shootings are far more likely to occur when children and teens are home from school. As summer break approaches, it’s more important than ever to remember to secure all firearms and to ask about the presence of unsecured guns in homes your child visits.
Do you need to secure your firearm? Free cable gun locks are available in our school offices and the district's office; stop by and pick one up!
More Families Now Eligible for Child Care Financial Assistance
Did you know? The state of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for our program. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
