As we embrace the arrival of spring, we’re excited to share all the wonderful activities and milestones happening in our school community this month. From engaging classroom projects to fun-filled events, March is shaping up to be a month of growth and learning. Be sure to mark your calendars for the important dates (shown below), including, spring break, upcoming showcases, and ways to volunteer your time.

This month we will be hosting our first WHES Heritage Month on March 27th. This is a time for our students and families to showcase their culture and heritage to our school community. This is also a time for our DLI students to showcase their learning in the DLI program. We have a schoolwide activity that we would love for our wildcats to participate in. We would love for ALL of our students to complete a Family Tree Activity to share with our school community of Heritage Night. The Family Tree information will be sent home with students soon. If you are interested in participating in our Heritage Night event, please reference this LINK with more ways to get involved.

We encourage all families to stay connected and continue supporting your child’s educational journey. Together, we’re creating a bright future for our Wildcats.

Starting this week until April 11th, students will be competing in a iReady March Math Madness Challenge at school. Each class will compete! We have a K-2 bracket and a 3-5 bracket. In order to gain points for their class they have to pass i-Ready Math lessons. Lessons done at home count! Brackets can viewed through Clever and will be updated every Monday! Winning classes get tech time with Mrs. Haynes and the winning teachers get duty free lunch!

On February 19th and 20th, WHES hosted 2 wonderful IB Evaluators during the remote learning days. During their time at Weddington, they were able to meet staff face to face and/or virtually, receive input from various community stakeholders, and hear from our wonderful students about the wonderful IB program that we have. The evaluators shared wonderful praises about the great things we have in place for our IB Program as well as opportunities. In the end, WHES is in an excellent position to continue to offer an outstanding IB experience. AWESOME!!

Currently, Weddington is over $3,200 in cafeteria meal debt. If these balances are not paid off, the school must use school funds to pay the balance at the end of the school year. Weddington Hills Families! We're excited to introduce this year's main fundraiser, the Weddington Hills Elementary Fun Run. Our goal this year is to raise funds to benefit ALL students at Weddington Hills. Be on the lookout for more infomation about our specific goal and fundraising items soon! We’re excited for this fundraising experience because it offers 3 important things to our school community: a user-friendly fundraising platform, a character enrichment program and a fitness-focused event that includes ALL of our students. As a family, you will work together asking friends and family to donate on your student’s Donation Page at MyBooster.com. The best part is, you can still support our school just by SHARING about the fundraiser! Students will also experience an amazing character enrichment program called “Castle Quest”, teaching students about how to be brave and live with character.

Class Dojo is a digital platform and app that is apart of WHES Core Behavior System. It is a way for our teachers to manage and provide feedback to students' classroom behavior. Students earn points for showing the Wildcat Way by being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, & Kind. Students are able to use their points in their classroom store, our Whiskers Whereabouts After several redirection strategies, if students do not demonstrate the Wildcat Way then students will receive a Needs Work to help redirect their behavior. On June 10, 2024, the Board of Education updated Policy 4318 Student Use of Electronic Devices. Policy 4318 is attached to this post. Please note the following important updates for the 2024-25 school year:

• Elementary School: Students are not allowed to utilize electronic devices from arrival on campus through departure from campus. Students are required to power off and securely store their cell phones away from their person throughout the school day.
• Middle School: Students are not allowed to utilize electronic devices from arrival on campus through afternoon dismissal. Students are required to power off and securely store their cell phones away from their person throughout the school day. Students engaged in after-school activities will have access to their electronic devices for communicating with parents/guardians.
• High School: Students are not allowed to utilize electronic devices during instructional time. Students may use electronic devices during non-instructional times which may include arrival/dismissal, breakfast/lunch, and class change. During instructional time, students are required to power off and securely store their electronic devices away from their person.

Arrival: Please follow our new car rider line route that we put in place at the beginning of the school year. Linked is the route map and the video as a reminder.

Dismissal: Enter at Weddington Road. Snake through the staff parking lot. Loop around car rider line and exit.

If you have not already requested bus transportation, please complete the google form ASAP. If a bus is requested, on or after open house, it an take up to 2 weeks to be assigned a bus route.

CCS is continuing to use this school bus tracking app. Parents can track their student's bus location on this app. Currently the messaging portion is not active yet, so if a sub bus is running it won’t show the sub bus number or info. But otherwise should be working to track regular buses.
