Attendance
If your childās bus is canceled, please make sure to inform the school by calling the attendance line or speaking with a secretary. Let them know that the absence is due to a bus cancellation. The secretary will mark your childās attendance with a āBā for bus cancellation, which will not count against them for truancy purposes.
If your child is sick and visits a doctor, please make sure to send in the doctorās note or contact us with that information. This will allow us to mark the absence as documented, which is important for accurate attendance records.
Please note that simply calling to excuse your child without a doctorās note will count as an excused absence, not a documented one. Documented absences are essential in certain cases to avoid any potential attendance issues.
Thank you for helping us keep our records accurate and supporting your childās attendance!

Spotlight Student
We want to recognize Skye for her incredible honesty and leadership. Recently, Skye found money on the bus and turned it in to her driver. Her respect for others and her integrity are truly remarkable. Skye, thank you for setting such a positive example for all of us. Keep being a leader! šš.
Spotlight Student
āš¤©ā Israel has demonstrated star student behavior. He has turned his behavior around, completed his work, and has participated in his class discussions. We are so proud of Israel for being a leader and modeling for other students what star student behavior looks like. Israel also gives back to his community in his free time which is an admirable quality.
Way to go Izzy!!! ā š¤©ā
Science
This week in science, sixth grade students investigated why scientists use a common measurement system. The students have completed measurement labs using metric rulers, graduated cylinders, spring scales, and a triple beam balance. The sixth grade is also programed microbits. Seventh-Grade students have learned about the structure and function of cell membranes. They created models using bubbles to simulate a cell membrane. The students also investigated cell organelles by participating in a lab that had them identify if the cell organelles are working correctly. Eighth grade science students are working on scientific writing using āClaim, Evidence, and Reasoningā statements. They are also beginning the Earth Science unit focusing on the Rock Cycle and Minerals.
Science and Engineering students have studied potential and kinetic energy by creating a paper roller coaster. The roller coaster used a round marble as a car and had hills, loops, and curves.
Our science students will engage in many laboratory assignments and projects that will help them connect science concepts with real world experiences. We continue to emphasize written and verbal communication skills to help students communicate their investigation results.
Our student spotlight this month is Mrs. Krupskiās Science class. This week, the students practiced computer coding skills to program Microbits to flash a sequence of lights.
To support your student in their science learning, ask them about their experience using metric measurements. Ask them to explain how metric measurements are used in their everyday activities.
Special Education
The special education team at Adams is absolutely amazing. Everybody works so hard to make sure the needs of all the students are met and that every student feels welcomed and safe. Among our team are Mrs. Roop our School Social Worker, and Kendra Mazur our Psychologist.
Hello. My name is Mrs. Roop and I am a school social worker here at Adams Middle School. I graduated with my Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 2020, and have been with Wayne-Westland for 5 years. I have the privilege of working with special education students in a vibrant middle school environment. My journey in this field began with a passion for supporting individuals with diverse needs and a commitment to fostering an inclusive educational experience for all. Throughout my career, I have been committed to advocating for the rights of students and ensuring they have access to the resources and support necessary for their success. In my role, I collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create tailored intervention plans that address each studentās social, emotional, and academic needs. I believe in the power of building strong relationships; by fostering trust and open communication. I help students navigate their challenges and develop essential life skills. I am grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of my students and to be a part of their educational journey. Together, we celebrate achievements, navigate obstacles, and cultivate a future filled with hope and possibility.
Hello! My name is Kendra Mazur and Iām the school psychologist at Adams Middle School. I have had the pleasure to work in Wayne-Westland for 25 years. I have worked in almost every building in the district at this point and currently also work in one of our elementary schools, as well as one of the high schools. I received my bachelor degree from Michigan State University and my specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy. I have truly enjoyed being able to work with children and families in our community for my entire career. I grew up with an uncle who had multiple disabilities, including blindness. This shaped my career and knowing that I wanted to help support people with disabilities. That is how I found my way working in the school setting as a psychologist. As an advocate for kids, I strive to help students receive necessary support to meet their highest potential. When Iām not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and reading a great book while relaxing with my dog.
