Message from the Principal
Dear Cornwall families
Most Friday mornings, we gather for All School Meeting. Today (after a failed attempt at a wintry dance party; ask your student about that; our students handled it beautifully) , I shared a knitting tradition from my Norwegian mother and grandmother, and wore a sweater that my grandmother knitted and wore before I was born. We talked about how at Cornwall, families have all sorts of different traditions, some of which might be familiar to you, and others are unfamiliar. And that differences is part of our wonderful Cornwall community. We will continue to talk about differences, familiar and unfamiliar, in the coming months.
And then...all the toilets backed up. It's never boring at Cornwall School! Enjoy the wintry weather this weekend!
In partnership,
Nadya

Reminders and Useful Bits
Preparing for cold weather
If you have hats and mittens or gloves at home, please make sure to send them with your student. In cold weather, a warm hat, gloves or mittens, and a jacket are required for recess. When the snow falls, the big kids will need snowpants too! (Don't worry, Ms. Bech will fight that fight!)
Snapshots from Cornwall School
First Grade
Before break, first grade worked to solve a problem with a newly designed product. Mrs. Cunningham came to our classroom to demonstrate and answer questions about her problem: she has some items to transport that don't fit in a normal backpack. Next, they drew up plans and made prototypes for improved carrying cases. They presented our prototypes to each other, and listened to feedback. Finally, first graders worked with fabric, glue, staples, ribbon, velcro, clothespins, and beads to make new backpacks.
Books Needed for Give-Away
On the last day of school before Winter Break, Friday, Dec. 20th, Ms. Abby will be hosting a Big Book Giveaway during library class. If you have any new or gently used books you'd like to donate to our giveaway, please send them into the school by Wednesday, Dec. 18th. Ms. Abby would particularly welcome any donations of graphic novels or other high-interest topic books.
Thanks!

Gift Card Donations
Many families have asked how they can help support our Cornwall community. Our counselors are seeking $25 gift cards to Shaw's, Hannaford, or TJ Maxx. You can put these in an envelope to give to Ms. Laurie.
