Brightwood Tiger Weekly News
2001 Brightwood School Rd Greensboro, NC 27405
Week of September 26 - September 30
Good Evening Brightwood Tiger. This is Principal Stokes. Welcome to Our Game Changing School Year! Please remember we welcome our Tigers into the building beginning at 7:05 am and the tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. We are experiencing high numbers of tardies daily. We have had anywhere from 60 – 100 student that are coming to school after 7:30 daily. They are missing valuable instructional time that will be difficult to recover.
Thank you to everyone that participated in our Start with Hello Week and Banned Book Week activities. We greatly appreciate the parents that took the time to come on Thursday to hear about our Title One Plan, our Morning Baskets and participate in a class Restorative Circle with the classroom teachers. As they all always say it takes a village to raise a child. We also shared how you as a parent/guardian can support your child and the school. The Title One presentation will be posted shortly so that each parent will have access to the information.
Students will begin taking their NWEA assessments this week in all grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. They will need their devices completely charged and working correctly. GCS has a teacher's workday coming soon on Oct. 5, students will not have school. Please mark your calendar because the Book Fair is coming soon Oct. 10 - Oct. 14.
Student interim reports will be coming this week September 28, please make sure that you are having open communication with your child’s teacher about your child’s academic progress thus far in the academic school year.
Parents many students were issued their devices please help us with reminding the students that their devices are to be used for academic purposes only. We are finding that many students are taking pictures, recoding videos and playing games on their devices. Please take the time to check your child’s device to ensure that they are properly using his/her device. We are not able to replace chargers at this time so if your child did not return a charger last year or have lost their charger this school year, we will not be able to replace it. It will need to be replaced by the parent or guardian. If your child damages or loses his or her device it will take time for it to be replaced because we do not have many extras on hand due to multiple breaks and damages that are occurring to the devices.
One cards were issued to all students in grades first through fifth if they attended a Guilford County Schools last year. All students must have their One Card with them daily and they must wear it all day. If the student does not have their issued One Card it will need to be replaced. A new One Card cost five dollars each time it is lost.
Parents remember our safety protocols include that parents are not allowed to enter the building during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. When only students enter the building during these times, we can keep laser focus eyes on the children and are also more equipped to recognize any potential suspicious activity. We welcome you to contact the school to schedule 15-minute classroom visits and meetings. Parents are not allowed to eat lunch with students as of right now we are just now transitioning back to eating in the cafeteria. We are teaching our children the cafeteria expectations.
School dismissal will begin at 2:13, instruction ends at 2:10 pm. Please make sure you have photo ID with you each day if you need to pick your child up early for appointment and emergencies which is before 1:45 pm.
We thank you so much for all that you do! Remember it is always a Great Day to Be a Brightwood Tiger! Have a wonderful evening remember to be amazing, because you are Amazing.
Love Always Your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
