Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
A big Thank You to all of our families for the wonderful and delicious treats that were sent in throughout this week. The charcuterie boards, the dips, the sweet treats, the pizza...it was all absolutely delicious and very much appreciated! We are very grateful for you thoughtfulness and kindness; it is awesome to work in such a supportive and caring school community.
Emails
We ask that all parents/guardians who are sending email messages to any of our staff to please be sure you add something in the "subject" line of the email, otherwise the emails go into our spam/junk mail, and we may not see your message. This is an additional security piece that has been added to nlschools email accounts.
Unexpected School Closures
In the event of an unexpected school closure (inclement weather, power failure, water problems, etc), we will use School Messenger to contact you via email. For this reason, it is important that families inform us of any changes in your contact numbers or email addresses. When inclement weather is expected, please listen to our local radio stations for school information, check the School Information Status Report on the NLSchools website at https://www.nlschools.ca/schools/statusreport.jsp/ or check Twitter @RoncalliSchool for the latest school updates. Decisions about school closures or delays due to weather are usually made by NLSchools by 6:30 AM.
On days when school may close unexpectedly early during the school day due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, it is very important that we know how each child will dismissed. Please read and complete the attached memo, and return to the school as soon as possible. For your convenience, a paper copy of this memo was sent home via the children as well.
Winter Weather
Now that the cold winter temperatures are with us, we want to remind families to ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for outside play. This includes winter boots, coats, snowpants, hats, gloves, scraves etc. The children love outside in the fresh air, but we need to ensure they are dressed for the winter elements. See below for some winter weather play tips;
- ensure all children are supervised outside
- check often to see that your child is warm and dry
- dress in layers
- stay away from snowplows and snowblowers
- don't play on roadside snow banks; snowplow drivers or other drivers may not see you
- choose play away from roads, fences and water
- Take extra caution when crossing roads. It might be hard for drivers to see you playing if they have snowy or frosty windows. Icy roads can also make it difficult to stop
- Snowballs should never be aimed at people or cars; accidents can happen very easily! Safe play is the best play
- Building forts and tunnels can be fun, but this activity should always be supervised by an adult. Forts and tunnels can collapse and suffocate you
School Announcements
If you have any fireworks or milestones that you would like to add to our morning announcements, please email Ms. Trina Pearce (trinapearce@nlschools.ca). Celebrating any and all accomplishments of our students is important to us.
