From Miss Angela
Dear VAP Families,
Black History Month is in full swing, and we are excited to share how our students will be honoring this important month through projects, activities, and celebrations highlighting the contributions and achievements of Black leaders, artists, and innovators.
We have a busy week ahead of us, and we are excited to share all the events happening here at school! Report cards have been finalized and will be going home with your student this week. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers. Tomorrow, our Honor Society installation will take place in the gym at 6pm. This event is invite-only, and families of invitees are welcome to join us for this special celebration.
On Wednesday, our middle school student leadership will be taking a field trip to Disneyland for a leadership conference. We are excited for them to have this opportunity to grow and learn. Then, on Thursday, we will have our annual K-5 Student Recognition Ceremonies. Each grade will have their own ceremony, and the times for each can be found below. We encourage families to attend and join us in recognizing the hard work and accomplishments of our students. Friday will be our middle school recognition rally, and once again, families are welcome to join us as we celebrate the achievements of our middle school students.
As a reminder, our Valentine’s Day Candy Gram fundraiser will be ending this Friday. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit our sister school in Altadena, supporting families affected by the recent wildfires. Sending a candy gram is a great way to spread kindness while helping a wonderful cause. For more details on how to purchase, please refer to the information below.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to a great week ahead and appreciate everything you do to help make VAP a wonderful place for our students.

Science Olympiad Success: A Stellar Performance at Sierra Vista!
Congratulations to our incredible middle school students on another successful Science Olympiad event! This past Saturday, our team traveled to Sierra Vista Middle School in Irvine, CA, where they faced tough competition in a range of challenging events. Special recognition goes to Lila and Shreya for their outstanding performance, securing 3rd place in Air Trajectory. But truly, all of our students did an amazing job, showcasing their hard work, determination, and teamwork. A huge shoutout to our students and coaches for their dedication and effort. Well done, everyone!
Congratulations to Sixth Grader, Lior Hernandez!
Lior has achieved a significant milestone by winning the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest at the chapter and district levels. Her essay, which explores the Edenton Tea Party, a lesser-known tea party beyond the Boston Tea Party, has now advanced to the state-level competition, where it will be judged alongside entries from across California. She will be honored at a DAR ceremony in February. This accomplishment highlights Lior’s enthusiasm for historical research and writing excellence.
Staff Birthdays This Week
As we move through the first full week of February, we’re excited to celebrate three amazing staff members who make our school a better place every day!
Miss Hannah – February 7th
Miss Hannah, our wonderful new 3rd-grade teacher, has brought a calm, warm, and inviting presence to our campus this year. Her kindness and dedication shine through in everything she does, making her a valued part of our school family.
Mr. Firas – February 7th
Whether it’s with his great sense of humor or his easygoing energy, Mr. Firas has a way of brightening everyone’s day. He brings a calm and lighthearted presence wherever he goes, making those around him feel at ease. Beyond that, he has a huge heart and is always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh when it's needed most.
Mr. Salvador – February 8th
Our school wouldn’t be the same without Mr. Salvador! As our dedicated janitor, he works tirelessly to keep our campus in tip-top shape, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for everyone. His hard work and commitment do not go unnoticed!
Let’s wish Miss Hannah, Mr. Firas, and Mr. Salvador a very Happy Birthday!

Let’s have some fun and get into the Super Bowl spirit together!
Word of the Month: Accountability
This February, our word of the month is Accountability! Accountability means taking responsibility for our actions, choices, and commitments—even when things don’t go as planned. It’s about following through on our promises, completing tasks on time, and owning up to our mistakes. When we hold ourselves accountable, we learn and grow, building trust with those around us.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the meaning of accountability and brainstorm ways to practice it at home. Whether it’s setting personal goals, admitting mistakes, or taking responsibility for chores, small actions can make a big impact! Let’s work together to make accountability a part of our daily lives.
