Principal's Message
Strengthening Parent Engagement & School Improvement at NISL โ We Need Your Feedback!
Dear NISL Families,
At NISL, we are committed to continuous school improvement, ensuring that our students receive the best education possible through strong partnerships with families and the community. A key priority in our School Improvement Plan is to increase parent engagement and strengthen school-community relationships, and we are excited to share some data with you!
School Improvement Goal: Strengthen Parent & Community Engagement to Support Student Success
We know that when parents are engaged, students thrive. Thatโs why we have taken intentional steps to make it easier for parents to connect with the school and be active partners in their childโs education. Over the past few years, we have introduced several initiatives to enhance communication and engagement:
- Weekly Newsletters โ Began a weekly newsletter this school year, keeping families informed with regular updates, event highlights, and school news.
- Buzzfeed; NISL Community Newsletter - Began a community newsletter, keeping our greater community informed of our progress and news about the school.
- Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Formation โ Formed a PTO this school year, creating a way for parents to engage with school leadership, support school initiatives, and build a stronger school community.
- Team Conferences for Middle and High School - Introduced team conferences for middle and high school families where families can meet with all of their child's teachers at the same time, which were highly rated by parents in our survey with 80% of families who attended the team meetings said they liked them better than individual meetings.
We have also implemented other initiatives to achieve our goal in the past, such as:
- PTCFAST Digital Conference Sign-Ups โ In the 2018-2019 school year, we began using a user-friendly online system, PTC Fast to simplify scheduling for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Expanded Conference Options โ Since 2021, we began offering phone conferences as an option for those who couldn't attend in person
In addition to these long-term engagement efforts, we continue to track Parent-Teacher Conference participation and parent feedback to measure progress and make improvements. Alhamdulillah we have seen an increase in percentages of our families attending parent teacher conferences, going from 59% (Fall 2023) to 76% (Spring 2025), marking a steady improvement.
We Need Your Feedback! โ Parent Surveys Now Open
As part of our commitment to ongoing school improvement, we invite all parents to complete our annual surveys. Your feedback helps us refine our school improvement plans and ensure we are meeting the needs of our students and families.
We kindly ask every family to complete two surveys by March 28:
Our goal is 100% family participation! Your responses are anonymous, and your honest feedback will help us make meaningful improvements.
The surveys are available in English and Arabic. If you need them in another language, you can use the Google browser translation settings to translate the surveys into your preferred language.
Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of our school community. Together, we are making NISL better every day!
