✏️ Miss Chocolate Fundraiser: Thank you to all who have participated in our fundraiser! Please note, we can only guarantee NOVEMBER shipment for paper orders submitted before 10/17. School delivery will be: Monday, November 7th (details to follow) It is extremely important someone is available to pick up the items during the window on the delivery day due to many items being perishable. Thank you!

✏️ Our next Community Check-In will be Wednesday, November 16th in the school cafeteria. Agenda topics will be shared in the coming week.

REMINDERS:

🍎 No Parking in the BUS LANE: You are not to park in the bus/fire lane during Morning Drop Off 7-8 am and Afternoon Dismissal from 2:30-3:15 PM. This is imperative for student safety and our bus riders.

🍎 Early Dismissal: Per the NACS Student Handbook, no early dismissals are permitted after 2:30 pm.

🍎 The Adams Ave. Drop-Off Lane: Please DO NOT drop your child off on the through-traffic lane.

To promote our school’s Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH) program, we’re having a food drive! From Monday, 11/7 to Friday, 11/18, students can bring these food items to school. Donations will go to Philabundance.

On November 10th 1st grade will be celebrating 50 days in school! 1st grade will celebrate the day by doing many fun activities related to the number 50. Children should try to dress in 50s attire. Students may come to school wearing their outfits.

For girls: Poodle skirts (full skirts), button-up sweaters, capri pants, etc.

For boys: Rolled-up jeans, white t-shirts, leather jackets, etc.

All players received a hard copy of the schedule at practice via Coach Parico and Coach Lynch.

Important Announcements:
Physical forms are required for all players to be eligible for games. If your child does not have a physical form turned in, they will not be permitted to play in our games.

Uniform Policy: All players must have a signed uniform policy form. In order to receive a uniform, all players must turn in a $20 deposit. At the end of the season, the deposit will be returned once we receive the uniform back and in good condition.

Parent Code of Conduct: All families must sign and return the code of conduct form in order to attend our games. Northwood expects all spectators to show good sportsmanship to our players as well as the other teams. Please return these forms and the uniform deposit as soon as possible.

i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill levels and needs, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn.

Leyendo en Casa (Reading at Home) features videos they made with Univision on how parents can motivate a love for reading at home. During the 60-minute virtual workshop, you will meet other parents of young children in our community. The workshops are in Spanish and invite you to think together about how home culture can bring books to life.

This month Latino parents will discuss how they combine musical and math elements to make reading fun! A free children's book will be mailed to participating parents. This program is best for parents with children ages 0-8 (PreK - 3).

About: Located near the Margaret-Orthodox Station of the Frankford EL, the Frankford Branch serves the communities of Frankford, Northwood, Bridesburg, and part of Juniata Park.

History: One of the oldest neighborhoods in Philadelphia, Frankford was originally settled by Swedes in 1638, although a Native American village appeared on a map from 1655. Frankford was named for a group of German Pietists, similar to the Quakers, who came from Frankurt, Germany. The area includes Frankford Avenue, the first legally laid out country road in the Province of Pennsylvania. Initially called the King's Highway, it was traveled by Lafayette and many of the delegates to the Continental Congress. Frankford was part of Oxford Township until 1800, when it withdrew and incorporated as a borough.

The Frankford library began in 1823, when the Library and Reading Room Association was founded. In 1857, the Oxford Library gave its books to the Library and Reading Room after space was provided in the Wright's Industrial and Beneficial Institute Building.

During the Civil War, the Library Room was used as a hospital, and in 1900, the library became part of the Free Library. By 1906, a new Carnegie-funded library was opened at Frankford Avenue and Overington Street near the site where the first horse-drawn trolleys were built.

The current library has undergone two major renovations. In 1959, the library was remodeled inside and out, replacing the neo-classic building with a modern structure of steel and glass. Finally, in 1997 the library was renovated as part of the "Changing Lives" campaign, which refurbished branches and brought Internet access to every library.
